BUY or DIY? Bridal Fabric Hair Flowers

  • It’s been a while since I’ve done a BUY or DIY? post but today it’s back with an explosion of girly loveliness!

    We’re talking fabric hair flowers…

But not just any old fabric hair flowers (I must confess, some are a bit too chintzy and childish for my liking) the delicate, floaty variety of fabric hair flowers made in chiffons and silks. Perfect for brides looking for a romantic hair accessory option on their wedding day.

    BUY

The wedding and Pinterest world has gone ga ga over the gorgeous floral hair accessories from Mignonne Handmade. And is it any wonder? Just take a peek at their beautiful, golden beige, handmade flower comb made from hand dyed silk organza:

You can buy this hair flower as a comb or clip via their Etsy store for $72.

Another Etsy find, for brides on a tighter budget, is this darling chiffon flower clip from The May Flower a bargain at just $7.

They’d also make lovely accessories for your bridesmaids and can be made especially for you in the colours of your choice. Perfect.

    DIY

Or go the DIY route with this fabulous tutorial from those crafty folk over at Project Wedding. They sure know a good DIY idea when they see it! With simple (and pretty) step by step instructions, this tutorial shows you how to make your own light, airy, floaty flowers.

Chiffon and/tulle fabric squares, a needle and thread, scissors and a piece of card are all you need to get started.

The finished flower (s) can be attached to a clip, hair comb or to a velvet ribbon to create a pretty belt.

Check out the full tutorial here.

So would you BUY or DIY?

For $7 I’d definitely buy for convenience, but for feeling crafty and proud of myself, I definitely would DIY. In fact, I’m gonna have to pin this for my DIY To Do list!

DIY! DIY! and if you aren’t crafty enough yourself (ie. like me) find someone that is! (ie. my mother in law!). it is so much more personal when it is DIY. this tutorial is PERFECT too!

Those are beautiful! wow I really want to have a go, but I also agree with the comments about the convenience it’s lovely to wear something that youv’e made though definately better than the convenience of buying cheap in somewhere like H&M where it’s not very ethically sourced. My daughter buys fascinators and hair flowers from a local girl, she has a website http://www.bambayay.co.uk I think if you can’t get your head around crafts yourself it’s good to spend your money wisely Xx

Ha, I actually work for Mignonne Handmade and stumbled upon this post by accident over at CraftGawker. Both alternatives are lovely! Great finds.

Flower hair clips are so beautiful for brides. I usually recommend using fresh flowers but this diy tutorial demonstrates a beautiful fabric one!
