Unique African Bridal Shoot: Traditional & Contemporary African Wedding Ideas
Hello lovelies,
I have something truly unique to share with you this fine Friday morning ~ an African dream of a shoot in the heart of Essex, England!
It’s filled to the brim with animal prints, traditional African elements and contemporary bridal couture all by a talented team of UK vendors.
Elizabeth of Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium came up with the creative concept behind the shoot as well as some of the most majestic, intricate and unique cakes I’ve ever seen. Here she shares a little about the shoot:
This shoot is a contemporary interpretation of Africa’s diverse and unique cultural heritage as well as an homage to the modern day African princess. We used colours ranging from dramatic black and white, metallic gold to shades of coral. We included traditional African fabrics, jewellery and styling to create the most alluring images that are indeed ‘Out of Africa’
Don’t the models look stunning in their gele’s (traditional African bridal headpieces) and white wedding dresses ~ such a wonderful mix of cultures!
Many thanks to FO Photography for sharing these gorgeous photos with us today and congratulations to all involved for creating such a unique and creative bridal shoot! Each element was so thoughtfully considered ~ check out the Elizabeth’s Cake Emporiom blog post for the meaning behind each cake / look.

As a South African blogger, I always feel a little ‘yeah yeah’ when something comes out of the US or UK marked ‘African inspiration’, but I had to do a very quick turnabout when I saw these cakes. The beaded one is my favourite, and I love the headdresses too. Lovely job!
Thanks so much Gaby! I adore your blog. Your comments are music to my ears and I am beaming from ear to ear as the cake maker. The beaded cake is also my favourite and was probably the most labour intensive.
Thanks so much for getting the blog up so quickly Elizabeth! It is deeply appreciated!

wow;;fantastic!!! as a jamaican living in brazil, I was looking for inspiration for 50th to celebrate my african/caribbean heritage..guess what…found it…thanks a lot….
congratulations…your looks are inspiring…
Oh this is gorgeous! I especially love the styling and detail on the desserts. They look like jewelry!
I absolutely LOVE this shoot! And the incorporation of a traditional African head dress with a traditionally European wedding gown- and the fingernails with the cheetah print to match the beading on the white gown- how BEAUTIFUL! So glad I have over two years to plan, because I keep changing my mind!
I’m so glad you found the shoot inspiring, Malika :) I was such an indecisive bride too – but it’s ok you’ve got time to narrow down your choices. Best of luck with your wedding plans!
