5 Kitchen Gadgets for your Wedding Registry (That You’ll Actually Use)

As you know, we’re big fans of a wedding registry!

Not only is it a chance to bag some gorgeous items for your home (it’s basically shopping without the dent in your credit card!), but it’s also your opportunity to make your ultimate kitchen wishlist become a reality.

You’ll obviously add the ubiquitous pots and pans, cutlery and crockery, but it’s with the gadgets where the fun really begins.

But as anyone who’s ever come across a dusty salad spinner, an underused melon baller, or long-forgotten ice-cream maker in the back of their kitchen cabinets, will know, sometimes even the coolest-sounding gadgets end up doing nothing more than taking up precious storage space.

So today, we’re teaming up with De’Longhi to share five great gadgets for your wedding registry, that you’ll actually use!

(Don’t forget to chuck out that salad spinner once you’ve finished reading it!)

1. A Stove Top Kettle

In Ireland where I’m from, almost every single home has an electric kettle, and it’s one of the most-used items in our kitchens. We do love a cup of tea!

And I think this is something we need our Stateside readers to adopt as well.

Now while electric kettles can be a bit dull, and need an upgrade every couple of years, a stove-top kettle is worthy of your wedding registry because not only is it so chic, but a good-quality one will last you a lifetime too.

I recently came across this really cute polka dot kettle by Kate Spade, on one of my fave blogs, A Beautiful Mess, and I was so enamoured with it, I ordered one of my own. It says ‘Whistle While Your Work’ on the spout – and I’m thoroughly converted to the stovetop way.

Not only have I got hot water on the go whenever I’m in the mood for a brew, but it’s a pretty gorgeous addition to my kitchen as well.

2. A De’Longhi Livenza All-Day Grill

I read the list of all the things this gadget can cook, and well, now I’m hungry.

The De’Longhi Livenza All-Day Grill was voted one of Oprah’s Favourite Things for 2016, and really, who are we to argue with Queen O? Ms Winfrey’s review of this one said, “It takes the place of at least three appliances on my counter right now.”

This counter-top grill has different plates that you can swap out depending on what’s on the menu. It cooks meat, fish, vegetables, pancakes, waffles, paninis, (and lots more), evenly and efficiently (not like when I take my eyes off the pan for one minute!).

Plus the integrated drip tray means it’s a whole lot healthier than conventional grilling. Pretty great, right?

3. Electric Whisk

You might have aspirations of baking cakes, cookies, and loaves of bread every weekend once you’re married, and you want one of those awesome industrial mixers that’s up to the task, for your wedding registry, right?

But are you really going to make all those cakes? And if not, is it worth taking up a whole cabinet in your kitchen (those things are BIG!) the other 360 days of the year when you’re not channeling your inner Martha Stewart?

I came to terms that while I’d love a big Kitchen Aid mixer (maybe in pink!), a hand-held electric whisk, was far more appropriate for my needs. You can whip it out in a matter of moments, and it’s perfect for whisking up small batches of cake batter with minimal clean-up.

Maybe one day in my dream kitchen, I’ll graduate to a big, proper mixer, but in the meantime, the handheld one actually gets some use.

4. Garlic Press

Now as you may have guessed, I’m kind of against single-use gadgets for your kitchen, but after reading an article from a pro chef in Bon Appetit a couple of years ago, I thought I’d give the garlic press a chance.

And it’s now one of the most used utensils in our kitchen. (We do eat a lot of garlic!)

Regardless of your favourite cuisine, if you love to cook, chances are, you load up on the garlic in many of your dishes. And while it’s a pain to peel, chop and crush – if you get a good quality garlic press, you can pop a clove in, with its peel still on, and it does all the messy work for you.

Et voilà!

Definitely worthy of a spot on your wedding registry, if you ask me.

5. A Speaker

Half the fun of cooking is cranking up the tunes in the kitchen or putting on your favourite podcasts.

And after too many near misses of spilling flour/passata/coconut milk/wine on my laptop or phone, I decided we needed something a little more permanent for playing music in the kitchen.

Whether you go for an old-school radio, a cool vinyl player, a regular jack speaker or something that works on Bluetooth (my preferred option), every kitchen needs something that churns out your favourite songs while you’re churning out your favourite eats.

Wouldn’t you agree?
