One Very Romantic Barn Bash

As you may have noticed, we’ve had a bit of a makeover.

And to mark our first real wedding with our brand new look, we thought it called for a celebration that was especially gorgeous. And we think you’ll agree, Alison & Tyler’s barn wedding in Alberta, Canada, certainly fits the bill.

With beautiful film photography by Justine Milton, their day was fun, relaxed, and so romantic (we do love it when a bride never stops smiling!).

We’re just in love with Alison’s wedding day look, her gorgeous backless gown, pretty blooms and fab hair and make-up (look out for the touch of crimping!). The bridesmaids were just as pretty in their getting ready robes and blush gowns, while Tyler & his gents looked the part in sharp, modern cut suits.

And finally the decor, from the cool photo booth (we’re definitely going to try and replicate for our next party), to the DIY centrepieces, to the simple ceremony backdrop, this wedding is brimming with ideas you’re going to want to pinch for your own…

Our Love Story

Tyler and I met while working at the Keg. I was in University for nursing, and he had just moved to Calgary working as an engineer, didn’t know anyone so worked as a bartender to meet some new friends.

We knew each other for 4 years, meanwhile dating other people. We ran into each other at beer fest in 2012, which sparked some interest but Tyler had dated a friend of mine so I refused to pursue the relationship.

One year later at a curling bonspiel in Red Deer, I could no longer ignore my curiosity for this handsome man. We began dating shortly there after.

I knew this guy had it all after taking some fantastic trips to Ireland, Scotland, Spain, and Mexico. We’ve also had amazing trips to San Francisco and San Diego where I began to share Tyler’s love for football (sort of, lol).

We had been together for about two years before I began to drop some subtle, maybe less subtle hints about wanting to get married. August 27, 2015 after a dinner at notable the restaurant where he first asked me to be his girlfriend he asked me to be his wife while eating ice cream in Edworthy Park.

The Planning

I’ve always dreamt of having a large wedding, and it was important for all of my family to be there so I searched a million and one venues.

I chose Willow Lane Barn because we had such a large guest list it really limited our choices, but it was perfect for us! It was a little different than your average hotel conference room and provided its own charm.

The wedding decorations were for the most part made by me friends or family. My dad made the tree cookies for centerpieces and table number holders.

I was amazed by how well my flowers turned out! Calyx Floral Design was amazing to work with!

We also were incredibly impressed by our DJ, Local DJ. They provided the sound for the ceremony and were the last ones to leave! They had the dance floor full all night long.

On The Day

We wanted the wedding to be stress free, which it was!

My favorite part of the day was the speeches. It’s amazing to hear your story being told by people you love.

We were so lucky to have the weather we did because the night before had weather warnings about extreme tornado watch followed by a torrential downpour!

It was the most incredible day, I wouldn’t have changed a thing!

We were surrounded by all of our favorite people! I would do it all over again!
