A Florist Bride’s Romantic Bloom-Filled Wedding

We love all the real brides and grooms we feature on the blog, but we do get extra excited when one of them works in the wedding industry – because you just know those details are going to be gorgeous!

And today’s sweet couple, Kayle & Preston certainly delivered, with dreamy style, unique decor, and of course, as Kayle runs floral and events company, Petal & Bean, the abundant florals were pretty spectacular too.

Their romantic Colorado wedding at Silverthorne Pavilion was packed with personal touches, from their tailor-made ceremony officiated by friends, to their Champagne bar reception (look out for the cool agate seating chart).

The skilled Sara Lynn Photography was there to capture it all so beautifully – oh and look out for the dresses too, you’re going to LOVE Kayle’s lilac and lace gown blowing in the breeze!

Our Love Story

Preston was friends with my little brother, Dylan. I was living in Fort Collins and came to visit Dylan in the mountains. I met Preston and the rest is history.

I have two brothers and I tried not to date any of their friends. Kind of funny I ended up marrying one.

I helped picked out the ring and I knew Preston had it (I actually unknowingly picked it up from the post office, ha!).

Of course when you’re in the situation where the ring is “burning” a hole in the groom’s pocket, you make romantic plans and think, “this is it, he’s gonna ask.” So I was basically waiting for it to happen and it totally caught me off guard.

One morning he woke up and got out of bed to make breakfast. I was being a bum and stayed in bed playing on my phone. I heard him coming up the stairs to our bedroom and I thought he was coming to give me a hard time for being lazy.

He was actually bringing me breakfast in bed and a proposal! It was so special to have that private moment and be home with our dogs.

The Inspiration

Our theme was boho, mixed metals, fall colors mixed with muted tones. Everything was pretty eclectic – I didn’t have set colors… everything complimented each other, but I did not want things to be matchy-matchy.

The venue is basically in our backyard – we live about a mile away. Also, it had elements of mountain rustic, but it was also a blank canvas to make it what I wanted it to be.

For the photography, I’ve known Sara for several years, even before I was in the industry. She has done two of my best friends’ weddings (they were bridesmaids), she’s also done head shots and boudoir photos for me.

The Ceremony

My cousin, Amber, sang all the songs for the ceremony. We had our friends officiant so I wrote the ceremony, with a love letter and wine box ceremony.

The Processional was Beyonce, ‘Crazy in Love’ and Elvis, ‘I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You (sung by Drew Reges & my cousin, Amber).

The reading was from  Dr. Seuss…

“We are all a little weird and life’s a little weird, and when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love.”

The Flowers & Decor

Here we go…

Succulents, airplants, amaryllis, blushing bride protea, delphinium, burgundy dahlias, dahlias, eucalputus, chocolate lace, hanging amaranthus, astrantia claret, garden roses, wax flower, hypercium, football mums, ranunculus, astilbe, ohare roses, hydrangea, tulips, purple scabiosa, privet berry, mauve lisianthus, salmon/soft peach spray roses, yellow wheat celosia, chocolate cosmos, and anemone.

We had five different centerpieces, a floral/Edison bulb chandelier, pipe and drape for the head table and stage, LED signs, agate table numbers and accents.

I actually worked on the flowers the days leading up to my wedding – it helped me stay relax. I also did my own bouquet, my grandmother helped make some of the boutonnieres, etc.

The Reception

I love Champagne so we did a Champagne bar. Guests ordered a rose Champagne and could add fruity simple syrups and fresh fruit – blueberry, peach, lavender, strawberry, pomegranate.

First Dance: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, ‘Home’ (Drew Reges & my cousin, Amber)

Mother/Son Dance: ‘Climb Every Mountain’ from The Sound of Music

Father/Daughter Dance: Sweet Child of Mine’ (acoustic) and a fun mashup with my dad and brothers.

Advice for Other Couples

Have an Excel or spreadsheet for the budget. For planning and research go to Pinterest, and wedding blogs.

Hire a day-of-coordinator at the very least! And don’t waste money on favors.

We’d absolutely recommend Thailand for your a honeymoon. We got to see the jungle and elephants and bum it on the beach. Such a beautiful place full of culture and great food. Not to mention, fairly inexpensive compared to some places.
