When you’re planning a wedding, you tend to fixate on the details, from the wine tastings, to the paper goods to the florals.

But there is one detail that even the most skilled wedding planner or most organised couple can’t predict – the weather.

Kristen & Phillip had the most beautiful wedding at The Kirtland Country Club by Lake Erie in Ohio, and despite needing to resort to the back-up plan for their back-up plan on account of rain (pro-planners are ALWAYS prepared for anything!), their day was still as elegant, romantic, and memorable as they’d intended.

From the Bride, Kristen

When I went to visit my sister in Houston in 2011, I had heard about Phil from the stories that Kerry told me. Let me just tell you that there is no better way to ‘screen’ someone’s true character than to have your sibling know them for years before you start dating.

Our connection was instant, and I had never felt so comfortable and open with anyone in my entire life. He was overdressed, and later Kerry whispered to me that “he was nervous and bought that expensive jacket because you were coming”. He was adorable and I fell in love instantly.

When I did leave to go back to Cleveland I was worried. Long distance relationships are hard for any couple, but we weren’t in a relationship…we had just known each other for a couple of days!

Incredibly, through messages and phone calls over the course of four months our relationship grew, and the fact that we had to get to know each other without actually being with each other made us stronger.

Three months in, our official second and third dates were Christmas dinners with each other’s families. And the strangest thing was it didn’t feel weird; it was perfect.

From the Groom, Phillip

Looking at how we met, I find it amazing how lucky I am. We have both lived in the Cleveland area for most of our lives, yet it took me moving to Houston for us to ever meet. I was in Houston pursuing a Master’s Degree, and met one of my best friends, Krissy’s sister Kerry.

Little did I realize that she would give me the greatest gift of my life, and I will be forever grateful.

Krissy was coming into town so that we could all go to see the Adele concert in 2011. Unfortunately, the concert was cancelled, but thankfully she decided to come for the visit anyway.

I remember driving to the airport with Kerry to pick Krissy up. Kerry had been talking about how pretty she was and that we would hit it off, but I was worried. I definitely over-dressed for the ride to the airport and for some reason was very nervous. Those nerves continued when she got into the car and I saw how breathtaking she was.

I had nothing to worry about, however, as we hit it off right away. I have never felt so immediately comfortable with someone; she even found all of my dumb jokes funny!

In the days that she was in Houston, I spent as much time as I could with her. I dreaded her leaving, and promised myself that I would do everything I could to see her again. We spent the next few months constantly communicating, and I had never felt more connected to someone in my life.

When I moved back home, the first thing I wanted to do was see her again! From that point on, we have spent nearly every day spending time with each other and growing more in love.

From the Planners, A Charming Fête

We worked closely with the bride, Kristen from the beginning to plan and design an elegant intimate affair.

We drew a bit of French inspiration from the crown moldings and vintage crystal chandeliers in the dining space and incorporated a soft color palette or pale grays, blues and blush along with elegant script calligraphy details and and abundance of lush blooms.

The menu cards and invite suite were dyed in varying pale blue grey watercolor. We did a combination of gray linens and reclaimed wood tables with ecru hemstitch napkins to pull in a classic elegance vibe.

Lush florals in small compotes lined the tables and the fireplace was adorned with climbing vines and foliage. A naked cake with light smearing of buttercream accented with large cafe au lait dahlias and vines was equally beautiful and delicious.

Giant pear trees flocked the corners of the dining room. Guests were guided to a separate stone enclosed patio area with chandeliers hanging above dripping with vines and greenery.

On the day of the wedding we found ourselves moving from Plan A, to Plan B to Plan C for the intended outdoor ceremony as heavy storms loomed. After the tent (Plan B) nearly came off it’s hinges due to torrential winds, we were forced to move inside which ended up being equally magical.

The bride was radiant and held her composure and grace aside from uncontrollable weather issues. There was nothing that could ruin their day!

Kristen was a vision in her gorgeous Hayley Paige striped organza ball gown with gray sash. She carried a delicate bouquet of black and white anemones, garden roses, ranunculus and astilbe.

The bridesmaids wore mix and match gowns in complimenting neutral gray blue tones.

Kristen and Phil danced the night away with their guests to the tunes of the Blue Water Kings.
