Colourful Destination Wedding in Ibiza

Colourful Ibiza Wedding by Gypsy Westwood Photography 60

Today we’re sharing a gorgeous destination wedding in Ibiza, filled with colourful details and lots of unique ideas to borrow for your own big day.

Fran & Rob are a UK-based couple, but as Rob is originally from Germany, they decided to tie the knot at a third, sun-soaked location, the atmospheric island of Ibiza, with their friends, family and two sons.

Their day, photographed by Gypsy Westwood Photography and planned by Ibiza Wedding, kicked off with a unique and intimate ceremony which focused around the classical elements. It was then followed by cocktails and canapés at their cool beachfront venue, before sitting down to dine with a spectacular Mediterranean sunset as their backdrop.

With glamorous style (I’m in love with Fran’s Galia Lahav gown), bright, eclectic decor (you’ll love the polaroid table plan), gorgeous florals and some really thoughtful touches, this one has made us fall hard for Ibizan weddings all over again.

Our Love Story

Our story begins in London where my best friend and maid of honour introduced us. We would all go out together as a big group of friends and one particular night I wasn’t there so he asked her where his future wife was.

She called me the next day to say how sweet he was and that I should give him a chance… so I did! And he was right in the end!

Nine years later, after many house moves up and down the country, he proposed. It was my birthday and despite having his work Christmas party the night before he turned up, hungover and giddy, to give me my presents.

Last of all the presents, was a small box.

He gave it to our two boys (3 and 4 at the time) to give to me. All three of them stood and stared and waited for an answer… Little did they know I already had an inkling as I’d found the receipt lying about in the week! Haha!

I said yes of course so we went for fish and chips to celebrate and then fell asleep on the sofa. Not very grand or romantic.

The Destination

We chose Ibiza mainly because I fell in love with the island many years ago and it was a good excuse to bring all our friends and family with us!

Rob is German so we wanted to avoid England or Germany and Ibiza is such a beautiful island.

So bewitching in fact that three couples from our wedding have already booked their holidays to go back this year!

Advice for Other Couples

I’d recommend viewing a few venues yourself as the places I loved online, I wasn’t keen on in person and the one venue I’d almost dismissed but decided last minute to view – was of course the venue I chose!

I’d also HIGHLY recommend a wedding co-ordinator. Kerry for Ibiza Wedding was an absolute god send; nothing was too much trouble. A good co-ordinator has a passion for spreadsheets, a sense of humour and nerves of steel!

She had all three in buckets and especially as I had a crazy few months prior to the wedding (completely unrelated) she managed to make it work when I was pushed for time and unable to get out to Ibiza in person.

The Decor & Details

I mainly sourced things and ideas through either people I knew who had married on the island or through hours of Instagram/Pinterest stalking.

I’ve never considered myself particularly crafty but I did make a wall of funny polaroid photos (most of them taken from friends’ Facebooks!) as our table plan. That were pegged to a board, covered in the same flowers from the flower wall and I’d written their table name and number on the back.

The tables were named after all things German so sauerkraut, currywurst and schnitzel were all there!

Special Details

As wedding favours we gave little pots of Sal De Ibiza – salt manufactured on the island,  for the men and  for the ladies, as sadly I lost my mum ten weeks before our wedding I decided on a badge from the British Heart Foundation in her memory.

It actually turned out to be lovely as many girls put theirs on for the evening and it was very touching for me to see.
