Romantic Garden Wedding in Barcelona

We’re getting our daily dose of prettiness today, from this gorgeous destination wedding in Barcelona.

Andrea & Adrian are a US couple, who fell in love in England, and had visions of a garden wedding in Spain filled with flowers and candles – and that’s exactly what they got.

Captured by the wonderful Gabby of En Route Photography, with a stunning backdrop of Masia Ribas just outside Barcelona, they had a tear-jerking ceremony, musical cocktail hour, and intimate reception. (Watch their video by Love Me Do here for the sweet speeches!)

It always blows me away how people travel across the world to share a couple’s special day, and by the sounds of it, Andrea & Adrian were equally awestruck by the love their got from their guests, and how special it made their wedding.

Our Love Story

We first met while studying at the London School of Economics through my maid of honour, Rachel Venuti.

Rachel had studied abroad at the LSE while in college and had met Adrian then. She put me in touch with Adrian when I moved to London to study for my masters. We met up a few times for various dates and had an instant connection. The rest is history.

Adrian proposed during a country walk in the Cotswolds (in the UK). We had been going away for the weekend under the auspices of it being Adrian’s birthday.

Adrian had really wanted to take a walk in the countryside when we first arrived, despite the rain that morning! Halfway through the walk, I turned around and he was behind me on one knee with a ring in his hand.

It was an absolutely perfect scene and I was incredibly surprised! We were totally alone except for some sheep!

When we arrived at our hotel later that evening, there was Champagne waiting in the room and we had a lovely celebration. We were both on cloud nine for days and I barely slept a wink that night as I was so excited!

The Setting

We knew pretty early on that we wanted to get married outside in a garden and that we wanted to do it in Spain.

We looked at a few different places in Spain (Barcelona, San Sebastian and Mallorca) before finally deciding on the first venue we looked at – Masia Ribas in Barcelona.

We were instantly impressed with the gorgeous venue – which immediately felt like a home away from home – and the professionalism of Elisabet Raventos.

We felt that the space was elegant and intimate and was exactly what we were after. We also knew that Elisabet would be the right person to help us achieve our perfect day.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was by far my favourite part of the day.

It was officiated by Adrian’s sister, Nicole McKenzie, who wrote the most gorgeous and heartfelt ceremony.

Adrian and I also wrote our own vows which, while terrifying, was important to both of us. Saying such intimate things to one another in front of so many family and friends brought a certain level of intimacy to the day.

The ceremony was sweet and lighthearted and just what we wanted it to be. There was a lot of laughter – a few tears – and a lot of love.

The Decor & Details

We wanted an outdoor wedding with an elegant, but relaxed theme. I knew I wanted lots of flowers and candles everywhere to set a romantic theme. The venue at Masia Ribas gave it a whiff of old world glamour that we also loved. The colours were berry pink, light pink and a sage green.

The flowers were a mix of roses, peonies and succulents. The bouquets were structured with a ribbon around the base.

Our table arrangements were the same flowers – with one medium sized arrangement in the middle of the table and then tiny glass vases with single flowers spread throughout the table. We also had candles everywhere.

Our favors were bottle openers in the shape of vintage keys. The tags were from Etsy, as was our cake topper.

The Reception

We had the amazing Piano Bar play songs during the cocktail hour. Our guests loved the vibe and my four year old nephew Ollie danced the evening away!

My mother also created a lovely video with photos from our childhoods that added a very personal touch to the dinner.

Apart from that, spending time with so many family and friends who had flown from – quite literally – halfway across the globe to be there made our day all the more special.

It was a humbling and surreal experience that we will treasure forever.
