Moody Winter Wedding Inspiration

Right now I am living for summer. Tentatively breaking out my sandals at the slightest promise of sunshine, and eagerly awaiting my first BBQ invite of the season.

But for many of you getting married in six, seven or eight months time, winter can’t come quick enough, right? And today’s beautiful wedding inspiration is for you guys.

Moody, urban and so romantic, this shoot by Kelcy Leigh Photography (her floral debut no less!) captures just how atmospheric a winter wedding can be.

Dripping with tall candlesticks, adorned with white flowers, laced with beautiful stationery, and featuring luxurious bridal style and ornate finishing touches, this shoot has lots of ideas to take away for winter brides and grooms.

I may not be wishing away summer just yet, but if winter looked as gorgeous as this every day, I’d say roll on those cosy January nights…

From the Photographer

Winter weddings have always been so endearing and out of the ordinary to me. There just something about them that makes you take a second glance and feel all sorts of warm and fuzzy inside!

It’s these feelings that inspired me to create a styled wedding shoot.

I wanted my shoot to have a mix of wintery coziness with a modern industrial feel to it, so my color palette was inspired by a snow-covered forest with greens, browns, grays and white and our venue, The Hudson, Wichita’s newest wedding venue, that brought about the perfect element of vintage and modern.

The Hudson, built in the 1950s, is an old warehouse and shop renovated to a wedding venue that provides the perfect blend of history and modern in its architecture and personality. It’s opening in Spring of 2017.

Our table scape featured an abundance of winter greenery-evergreen, thistles, berries and even pheasant feathers, and a plethora of golden candle sticks to emit a warm fireside glow.

The whiskey & cigar bar with its vintage feel makes you want to sit and stay a while, enjoying a cigar or feel the whiskey’s warmth run down your throat after that first sip.

With a cake made of cinnamon rolls and dripping with cream cheese frosting showcased by the vintage stereo cabinet, it was hard not to take a bite right then and there!

The bride wore a long sleeve lace and chiffon gown designed by Lillian West and an original fur shawl that was my grandmother’s.

I’ve been a wedding photographer for four years and I recently have been wanting to start offering florals to my wedding clients, so this shoot is my floral debut! All the table florals, ceremony frame florals, and bouquet were designed and put together by myself!

I had so much fun putting together this shoot and am so proud of all the vendors who contributed and made it possible despite the ice storm that was occurring while it was happening!

If anything, the ice just put us all in the mood to create an atmosphere of warmth and romance!
