Multicultural Persian and French Destination Wedding in Barcelona

There’s nothing quite like a fun wedding in a fanciest of settings, and by the looks of it, today’s real wedding was exactly that.

This morning we shared Karen & Nima’s gorgeous wedding film by Anker Prod (make sure you watch it!) and now we’re back with all the details of their day, by the talented photographers, Visual Foto.

The French-Irish bride and Persian groom who met, fell in love and live in Dubai, got married with a destination wedding in a spectacular Spanish castle, Castell Sant Marçal in Barcelona.

Keeping the venue as a surprise for their guests, the couple fused their cultures on the day with a traditional sofreh aghd ceremony ritual as part of their garden nuptials, and a French market-style set-up for their decor. The truly stunning celebration was planned with the help of Carole of Marry Me In Spain.

White blooms, traditional Spanish fare, plenty of cocktails, great music – plus of course, the spectacular backdrop – make this wedding one to remember. And just wait until you see the string lights!

Our Love Story

We met in Dubai, our story was completely serendipitous.

I was supposed to leave to go live in New York, I had my flights booked, I was all packed and had cancelled my Dubai visa, I was searching for an apartment in Manhattan, liaising with contacts for a job. I was leaving for a new life!

And against all odds I met Nima and something held me back – so I stayed.

And here we are married four years later as happy as ever… From the day we met it became a love story we’ll tell forever.

The Style

I had my dress made; it was inspired by a Chanel bridal dress from 2009 collection. I had seen Blake Lively wear it to a premiere a few years ago and thought it was simply beautiful, so delicate and dainty with the flowers theme.

My favorite part is that I made it detachable so the bottom sheer underlay comes off (I removed it once the dancing started) – so I can keep the top section as a mini cocktail dress and wear it over and over again! I’m sure any bride would want to get a chance to wear her wedding dress again!

I kept accessories minimal as the dress itself was quite busy and I wanted to keep the focus on it – I just wore my engagement ring and drop diamond earrings that my in-laws got me.

I dared the bright red nails though which gave a lovely touch!

The Setting

We chose a venue near Barcelona called Castell de Sant Marcal.

Our heart skipped a beat when we visited it, we looked at each other and knew that this was were we wanted to celebrate our big day – the spectacular gardens and jaw dropping French orangerie instantly seduced us.

We even kept the venue a secret from the guests until the day itself.

The Decor

For the decor, the castle is so stunning in itself that we kept it quite simple.

We wanted a dainty chic disorganized look. The flowers were white and bushy with lots of leaves as if freshly picked from the fields to give a rustic touch and match my dress.

The one thing that stood out was the lighting: we had a “shower of fairylights” put in the trees which gave it all a magical dreamy touch.

The Planning

Carole from Marry Me in Spain in Barcelona was our wedding planner. We live in Dubai so it was essential for us to have the help as it’s difficult to organize from far.

She was the first wedding planner we met and we chose her immediately – she was just what we were looking for, switched on, attentive to details and endlessly sweet.

She took the time to get to know us, understand what we were looking for and guide us through the whole planning journey. We felt we could trust her to make our dream wedding happen… and she did, it was even better than we dreamed of!
