Refined and Romantic Destination Wedding in Tuscany

Luxurious Destination Wedding in Tuscany by Stefano Santucci 2

Oh today’s real wedding is a stunning one, it’s luxurious, romantic and so joyous.

Samantha & Sven are a couple who hail from Brazil and Holland respectively, live in London (after Samantha’s stint in Paris) and tied in the knot in Italy, with a garden ceremony in the Tuscan countryside surrounded by friends and family from around the world.

Their day was a stylish affair, and while they kept in classic in the grounds of the breathtaking Villa la Foce, with manicured gardens, a marquee reception, white bouquets, and elegant attire, this day had a truly contemporary vibe too. Paying homage to Sven’s native Holland, Dutch orange splashes throughout the day looked beautiful against the lush greenery, and gave a modern, informal touch to the refined setting.

With photography by the ever-wonderful, Stefano Santucci, and meticulous planning by Cecilia Righini, this destination wedding day is brimming with unique ideas, beautiful style, and great planning tips from this gorgeous bride and groom.

Our Love Story

We met at the very final semester of university in England at a mutual friend’s birthday party.

We then moved to London to start our careers, and seven years later (during which time we endured two years of long distance relationship while I, Sam, lived in Paris for work) Sven proposed in the beautiful greens of the English countryside.

Our wedding in three words? Magical, stunning, elegant.

Our Wedding

Our wedding day was truly the most wonderful day of our lives and thanks to all our vendors it turned out just as how we had wished.

Samantha, having spent her career in luxury marketing, was very particular about aesthetics and presentation – most of this was expressed through the stunning structured beauty of the Villa itself – La Foce, which we just knew was the right place for us to get married within two minutes of visiting it.

We also knew we wanted to get married in a garden setting as much of our childhood was spent outdoors and also because neither of us are very religious so we knew we did not want a church setting.

Sven and I had been together for seven years prior to getting married – he is originally Dutch and I am Brazilian. The essence of our relationship is very relaxed, light, and mutually supportive.

We wanted this relaxed vibe to transcend because we did not want the wedding to feel stiff or too serious.

We wanted the celebration to reflect who we are, which the celebrant Giuseppe from Blessings of Italy managed to do perfectly – the celebration was light hearted and encapsulated what Sven and I meant to each other but also what we represented to all the guests who were there.

The day was extra special as it also symbolised the 40th wedding anniversary of the bride’s parents, so it was a very emotional and symbolic day for the family as a whole as well as a message of endurance and long-lasting nature of true love passed down to the newly wed couple.

The Photography & Videography

We chose or photographer Stefano Santucci and videographer Daniele Pelacani to capture our day because we did not want the photos to feel too posed or modelled. We wanted the images to capture the essence of the day – the mood, emotions of everyone around us.

We did not want people to notice they were being filmed and photographed as that takes away the spontaneity of emotion which we wanted to capture above all.

We also wanted them to capture the beauty and vastness of the venue as we are not from Italy and wanted to be able to keep that memory as the venue itself provided much of the ambiance and mood of the day in itself.

The duo were perfect, very discreet, endearing, and were absolutely excellent at keeping the bride calm especially during the final hours prior to the ceremony while she was getting her hair and makeup done.

Advice for Other Couples

Don’t let the small details supersede the true essence of the wedding day.

Sometimes in all the planning you lose track of what’s truly important.

Remember that as long as the food and music are good, the guests will have a fabulous time and the rest is just detail.

The Decor & Details

We chose the colour theme to be whites for the ceremony with gorgeous hydrangeas which Samantha loves so much, and orange for the dinner reception flowers organised by Fiorile, as well as the bridesmaid dresses for the day.

The reason for the orange was to add a splash of Holland, where Sven is originally from to the day and to make his Dutch family and friends feel more at home.

We also felt orange fit in so perfectly with the venue and against the dark green cypress trees backdrop of the venue itself.

The Italian food and wine catered by Guidi Lenci was truly delicious and faultless.

All of the flowers through Fiorile, catering through Guidi Lenci, photography and videography, as well as marquee and music, were organised by our fantastic and faultless wedding planner Cecilia Righini, which without her, we could have never been able to have organised such a perfect and smooth day, especially given Sven or I don’t speak any Italian so it would have been extremely hard to organise.

Her professional and organised approach made the day and run up to the day just seamless.

Favourite Moments

What made the wedding just so us was the international feel to the day.

Having been born and raised in Brazil but then spent my adult days moving around Europe and likewise Sven being originally from Holland but then growing up in England, our friends and family came from all around the world to celebrate our day in Tuscany, which was yet another place added to the equation, which had absolutely no link to us.

They made a great effort in travelling all that way and being there just for us and that’s something we will forever cherish and remember.

We were happy that despite such a mix of cultures that everyone was able to come together in such a warm and embracing fashion. Our favourite moment was seeing everyone we love together in one place.

The Honeymoon

For our honeymoon, we decided to do a safari first in Zambia and Botswana followed by beach relaxing in Mozambique, as my Brazilian blood needed the sunshine!
