Modern Farmhouse Wedding Inspiration

Today’s shoot is one after my own heart because it takes texture and atmosphere over overt styling, and gives the traditional rustic farm wedding aesthetic, a contemporary organic overhaul.

Captured by Alexandra Wallace, planned and styled by Kelsey Elizabeth of A Lovely Creative, and featuring a team of talent from Central California (one of my favourite parts of the world!) this shoot is all about easy romance, effortless styling, farm to table vibes, and just a touch of elegance and luxury.

With a unique colour palette – I’ve never seen black look quite so airy! – rich textures, and beautiful blooms, this one is laden down with ideas for having a relaxed yet sophisticated farmhouse soiree.

I have a feeling you guys will be hitting the ‘pin it’ button pretty heavily with this one.

The Inspiration

Our inspiration for this shoot came from our local way of life on the central coast of California. A modern take on farm life, sharing food and good conversation over a simple, but elegant tablescape.

The weather is always mild and this couple enjoys golden hour on the rolling hills of San Luis Obispo. There are sun kissed wheat fields and a pure blue sky on almost every day in fall.

The mood: Warm summer light, airy textures, simplicity, richness, weightless fabrics.

The colour palette: Black, grey, apricot, blueberry, gold, ivory, taupe with hints of marble, other mixed metals.

The elements: Medium-blonde wood, copper, 24k gold, marble, rust, gauzy imperfect fabrics, raw silk ribbons, ceramic, white washed stone, pampas grass.

The Tablescape

Farm to table food and produce is prepared for the evening among friends and family.

The table setting is captured in an undone, unrefined fashion, rather than perfectly situated at each guests place setting.

Charcoal linens spill onto the large farm tables, fresh apricots, warm honey, cheese and assorted berries are on the appetizer menu, complimented by crisp champagne and rich red wine at the bar.

The Venue

The wedding venue, Higuera Ranch, is a retired winery. Now the venue is owned by a few ranching families from the central valley.

They see the venue as a “for fun” project and vacation home for their young families.

They truly take interest in each of their couples and allow them to enjoy the weekend at the ranch making it their home for their wedding weekend.

The Couple

The groom, Jensen (in real-life) is a provider of local farm fresh produce, providing a subscription service of beef, pork and chicken sourced from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.

He delivers curated boxes of locally raised produce once a month to all subscribers.

His wife, Grace is very simplistically and naturally beautiful, wearing a Carol Hannah gown.
