Fall has certainly arrived! We are digging all the earthy tones, moody romance and darker details as of late. Today’s real wedding features exactly that, a super fashionable couple, marrying at an urban art gallery in Winnipeg, Manitoba captured by FOC Photography.

Take note of their incredible style, the bride rocked a unique pearl and sequin two-piece gown with long sleeves (perfect for the coming season!). The groom had his show-stopping burgundy suit custom-made. The trendsetters certainly group together, as the bridal party sported equally stylish looks, coordinating within a neutral moody color palette, with plenty of art-deco inspired sparkle and embellishments.

Our Love Story

We met on a beach volley-ball court in an urban park. It wasn’t love at first site but Nathan’s sense of humor, and friendly personality caught my attention. It wasn’t long before we became friends and realized that we had similar interests such as snowboarding, volley-ball, staying active, and strong family bonds. As weeks and months grew by, we were spending almost every day together, and so it began…

Six years later Nathan asked me to marry him with both our immediate family’s and close friends by our side at my favorite tapas style restaurant, Deseo. He brought me up the stairs to the second level, and had Bruno Mars “Count On Me” playing in the background. At that moment I new what was about to happen. We had a great night filled with laughter and tears of joy.

The Setting

The late-modernist building is regarded as one of the finest in the country was the perfect backdrop to our fresh, modern vision. The building’s pronounced angular shape is made from a local stone (Tyndal Stone) that was used for the entire exterior and the majority of the interior surfaces. This smooth, natural limestone surface allowed the greenery and subtle wedding colour palette to pop.

Special Moments

With a 5 o’clock ceremony, we chose to do a first look to be able to spend the rest of the day together. Nerves ran high for the both of us, but we were equally as excited to see each other for the first time that day.

Keeping my look a secret from Nathan wasn’t easy as I share all of my thoughts with him on a daily basis. We were both extremely restless with anticipation before that moment. Seeing him helped calm my nerves and filled my heart with relief, knowing that I could now spend the rest of this special day with him.

The Fashion

I purchased my dress on a shopping trip to Toronto at Sash and Bustle, one of the top bridal boutiques in Toronto. The small intimate boutique has a collection of modern designers, perfect for the modern bride.

The dress was a two-piece with a long sleeve, fully sequined with iridescent and pearl sequins by Theia. What I loved about the top was it’s casual and simple silhouette free of boning, and stiff materials that constrict the body from moving freely.

Nathan wore a custom tuxedo from Aldo Formal. A deep burgundy tux jacket with satin black wide lapel and black tuxedo pants coordinated with the brides dark colored flowers in her bouquet.

A muted colour palette with metallic embellishment ended up being the theme for the bridesmaids. We wanted each dress to reflect the bridesmaids’ personalities and style to create that effortless vibe, as if the girls each picked their own dresses and somehow ended up coordinating perfectly for the wedding.

The Photographer & Videographer

As soon as I met Crystal, I knew that she would be the one. She was easy going yet very professional. I felt comfortable trusting her with our vision and judging by her portfolio, I knew that her artistic flare would match our style. Her wedding photos captured the real candid moments that made our day such a successful one.

Mindscape made us feel comfortable from the moment we approached them. This dynamic husband and wife duo does not lack creativity and made us feel like they would do whatever it takes to compose a video that would portray our personalities and sense of style.

The Details

Once downstairs, guest were able to appreciate more unique details such as a clear seating chart hung from a pipe structure, black minimalist menu’s on wooden charger plates, and a sleek pen in custom velum paper sleeve as wedding favors.

One of our favorite décor elements were the tall centerpieces that were part of the my vision from the very beginning. An Ikea floor lamp with Ikea geometric lampshade, covered in layers of ferns and Italian ruscus leafs. I worked many hours concocting these centerpieces, as I had to put together the lampshade, cut it in half, spray paint each one black, and attach a fair amount of faux greenery around each shade. The florist then attached real leafs and ferns to the lampshades to complete the look and make each centerpiece appear as if it were a giant bouquet of greenery floating above the tables.

Advice for Other Couples

Don’t be scared to pick the dress that makes you feel like you. Only you know your style best and trust yourself to make the best decisions for your special day!

Also, hire a wedding planner for a worry free day! Melanie was much more than what we expected from a wedding planner. She ensured us that she would do whatever she could to make our vision come true and that every little personal touch and detail would be perfect. It was truly amazing to not have to worry about all of the little things that Mel took care of the day of the wedding.
