Glamorous Downton Abbey Wedding Inspiration

Happy Downton Abbey day! Whether you’re one of the lucky ducks who get to hop to theaters today in the UK or you’re brimming with excitement for the movie premiere to come in your own home country, this Downton Abbey-inspired wedding editorial with have your heart aflutter!

The Hampshire Wedding Club, a collective of talented wedding professionals located in none other than Hampshire, UK were just as excited as we us for the Crawley family’s silver screen debut. Taking inspiration not only from the storied estate’s regal halls but also the fictional family’s own personal style we are so tickled by how truly ‘Downton’ this wedding inspiration really is.

Pylewell Park, for one, poses as an equally dashing estate (and surely with less family drama invading its halls!) With regal rooms & ornate gardens, the venue provides ample space for any bride or groom planning their aristocratic party.

My favorite character and hairdresser Tori Fuller‘s favorite too, Lady Mary makes an appearance in the shoot – further proving how chic the bridal bob still is today! (Okay, so I may have just thrown that in as a self-love statement, but hey, I love my fellow brunette bob’d brides!)

With the next installment of the incredible and much-loved family saga finally upon us, Downton Abbey could not be any more exciting if it tried. From the front cover of Town and Country, gorgeous features on the Vanity Fair website to articles in the press all over the world we literally cannot wait to watch the new film.

We opted to create a look inspired by what we have seen play out in the trailers to the new movie, whilst ensuring we honour the sublime style and sass of the beloved Lady Mary (who is personally my favourite character). We added a slightly more contemporary twist, hoping to ensure modern couples can embrace this exquisite style for their wedding day.

Our version of Downton was lovingly created deep in the beautiful New Forest, in Hampshire. Tucked away at the iconic Pylewell Park, which in its own right has welcomed royalty and effortlessly celebrates a bygone era in a truly unique style. We have given a courteous nod to the much-loved Grantham Style, and love the fact that the details are perfectly keeping with the exquisitely elegant Downton period. The high ceilings and striking features make Pylewell a wonderful setting for our roaring 30s bridal story”.

If you don’t hear the recognisable piano chords looking through these images, and can’t imagine the servant’s bell ring requesting delivery of perfectly chilled champagne we will be very surprised.

The Venue

Is a magnificent Hampshire estate hidden away in Lymington in the New Forest, it is also the much-loved home of the Roper-Curzon family. Four years in the making, Pylewell Park is now a highly sought-after wedding venue offering couples complete exclusivity for their extraordinary day. Personally, we don’t know if its the beautiful views of the rolling countryside or the spectacular sea aspect, that allows this venue to capture your heart, all we know is it is utterly magical.

Five generations of this family have loved, lived and breathed a new narrative into this magnificent house, adding to and personalising its already rich and extensive history. Putting this splendour to one side though, there is a natural and easy welcome you are greeted with upon arrival, which provides a genuine home from home comfort. It is warm, welcoming and quirky with a liberal dash of luxury. Exploring its unspoiled 27 acres of gardens, tranquil lake and your very own private beach, couldn’t feel anymore Grantham if you tried.

The Photography

Known across the UK for nostalgic and luxurious storytelling style photography, Anna and Stu Cooper added decades of experience and an effortless style to this editorial. There is something about the way they observe and capture moments that make them iconic, exemplary and innovative all at the same time. Recently celebrated in the top 50 Phenomenal Photographers project by The Brand Stylist, Fiona Humberstone.

This husband and wife team, have a way about them that would fit into any family saga, clearly in a very good way. Whether it is the complimentary comments they make to each other, the funny little in jokes they use to motivate each other, or the way they lovingly hold space for each other – watching them work is truly wonderful. It is fact that many suppliers find it hard to say what they are good at, but these guys simply love what they do and I am delighted to say it shows.
