When I think of the Andalusian hills in Southern Spain, I instantly imagine romance. You know, the kind where you fall in love amongst the olive groves aside Moorish palaces?

Kate & Hugo’s Spanish destination wedding evokes just that thanks to the iconic romantic scenes of the Andalusian countryside. Choosing to marry outdoors at Carmen de Los Chapiteles, and roaming the gardens & plazas of the charming village, their wedding photographed by Doncel y Alcoba is a feast for the eyes.

Aside from the breathtaking location & whimsical blue florals (wait until you see the ceremony space!) we’re particularly taken by the couples sweet & sophisticated wedding-day attire. Hugo, easily distinguishing himself as the most dapper man in the room, wore a classy & bold ivory tuxedo. Meanwhile, our hearts are aflutter for Kate’s beautiful cropped bridal jacket paired with a romantic lace gown.

Our Love Story

We met in Spain in Park Guell while both were on vacation. He saw me and asked if I wanted some help with photos and now we have been together for almost seven years!

He proposed to me on an island in the Caribbean sea. He made it look like he was about to take a photo of us with a timer (but he put it on a video). We were posing for the camera and suddenly he got on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. That was very romantic and very unexpected! We couldn’t stop hugging and kissing.

Hugo’s Story: I never saw such a beautiful girl before I asked her if I could help her with her photos. I was not very shy and I immediately showed my interest in her. We started talking and we couldn’t stop laughing…everything was a good excuse to make her laugh. We talked about her being a vet, about all the animals she had when she was a kid, her crocodiles, her parrots and turtles.

I think she understood that I was the one with whom she would marry seven years later when she saw the hour and it was around 4 am…and we had only talked during all this time. The next day we could not wait to meet again and talk about our favorite music, our studies, work and everything. I just wanted to make sure that she really knew that I would marry her.

Moving forward in time, I can tell you that we went through everything. We ended up having a long-distance relationship through different time zones but we always find a way to fight against everything together. It was all because what we had was so strong and unique.

Indeed as she said, I asked her ‘to become one’ on an island of the Caribbean, a view exactly like the photos I shared with her when we started talking for the first time. You can guess that she said – yes – but I also need to confess that I was so nervous that I was not really sure that I heard when she said it. Fortunately, I captured everything on video.

The Dress & Attire

For the outfits, we wanted truly classic and elegant, something very distinctive yet simple. A white elegant dress that looked as though it was made only for Kate was the perfect choice, while Hugo picked an ivory tuxedo jacket that disguinguished him.

The Destination & Decor

We chose Spain first because it was the place where we met each other and second because there are some of the most beautiful sights we had ever seen – especially in Granada. We wanted to make something that was very sober & elegant yet frugal. An environment in which we could get together with those that really matter to us.

For the decoration, we decided to use green and white as colors, something that could truly reflect a sense of serenity and purity. For the place, after reviewing many different options, we chose Carmen de Los Chapiteles in which we imagined all those perfect moments to enjoy with our families. Our wedding was very international because we had Mexicans, Russians, Spaniards, people from Latin America meeting in an Andalucian environment. The flowers matched the event style starting from the entrance, the stairs and the tables, combining perfectly with the amazing sight from the venue.

Favorite Moments

For the ceremony, we had live music. It was a violin playing “our” songs and it was a very special moment. The hosts of the ceremony were his uncle and my dad.  Since Hugo is Mexican and I am Russian he said his vows in Russian and I said mine in Spanish.

At the reception, our first dance was really special and all my bridesmaid got together and we made a dance surprise for all our guests.

The Photography

Mery (our planner) sent us info about three different photographers. When we were checking works of Doncel and Alcoba we understood that was exactly what we needed. Every photo was like a masterpiece showing all the beauty of the couple and also sharing how happy they were. We are very happy they made such amazing photos of our special day. Every time I look at them I feel so happy.

The Music

During the ceremony, a modern playlist of songs was performed with violin and piano, which created the perfect environment that made everybody feel close and cozy even on a cold day. While at the dinner there were songs for every nationality in the room. On the dance floor, the selection was the same – a mix of songs for everybody to enjoy together.

Advice to Other Couples

Probably, nothing would have been so great without the love of our families who helped us with everything and supported us through all the planning up to this day in which we finally joined our lives together.
