Danielle and Jimmy's boathouse wedding in Central Park, New York was so creative, colourful and fun!

Every aspect of their day makes me smile ~ from their cute, playful story booklet invitations to the turquoise and yellow colour scheme, coca cola bottle decor and their unique, art guestbook. Not to mention their gorgeous photos by Sweet Little Photographs.

Danielle writes so eloquently about their day and she's also one of the most beautiful brides I've ever seen!

The wedding day was very important to us and we really wanted it to be as personal and intimate as possible from start to end.   We tried to stay away from traditions and had a short but oh so sweet ceremony lead by our friend.  He was ordained to marry us and read words that we wrote.  Instead of saying “I do” we each read lines we selected from a poem.  The last line said was “I will choose you, over all others, every day for all the days of my life”.

Three minutes of love later, the party filled with everything “us” began and we got to celebrate our new life together with everyone that we loved for the rest of the day…

A Handmade Statement Necklace & A Special Wedding Ring

So I’m not into veils and big dresses, I wanted a nice fitted dress without the bling, bells and whistles, and instead wanted my necklace to add a little flare to it.  I went bead shopping with my bridesmaid Kait and got 18 different beads which she turned into this beautiful necklace as well as earrings for the bridal party. My engagement ring and wedding band were Jimmy’s Nana's who is no longer with us. It meant so much to us to have her memory be such a big part of that day.

Sentimental Florals

We had sunflowers, hydrangea’s and craspedias at the centerpieces, cotton flowers at the cake table, and my bouquet had gardenia in it.  This was very important to me because it meant a piece of my grandpa was with me that day.  As a child, my favorite times with him were watering and smelling his gardenia plants.  Gardenia was also special to me as it was Nana’s (Jimmy’s grandma) favorite flower. The boutonnieres were the craspedia and thistle, and the mom’s had a small corsage of a gardenia that hung around their wrist or clutch.

The Ceremony Music

Art-Strings string quartet did an amazing job playing contemporary songs for us.  Our processional was “You and Me” by Lifehouse (which they learned for the wedding), and the recessional was “That’s Amore” by Dean Martin.  That song always made us smile so what better way to exit.

A Unique Guestbook

I’m a painter and instead of having a “guest book” where people sign their names, I wanted it to be a piece of art.  What better way to cherish our day and who we shared it with than having a big masterpiece made by all our close friends and family?  Once it was complete, I added a little twist to it myself and we have it hung in our apartment now.  It’s beautiful.

I am head over heels for this alternative guest book idea!

Come back tomorrow for Part 2 of Jimmy and Danielle's oh so creative wedding.
