You can select the perfect venue, choose the most beautiful dress, and painstakingly pick every single flower in your bouquet.

But you can’t plan the weather.

(Especially if you’re getting married in Britain!).

Which is why Frances and Lee’s gorgeous Welsh castle wedding gives us hope!

It doesn’t matter if the clouds are grey and the ground is wet, if you and your beau are in love (and you have a great photographer like Sidney Diongzon), you can have a perfect day – and stunning photographs – whatever the weather.

With an atmospheric setting in St. Donat’s Castle in Wales, this is the ultimate fairytale wedding backdrop.

The bride, beautiful with an elegant lace gown and flowers in her hair, the groom, dashing with a sweet boutonniere and a smart suit. And their rides? Some cool vintage VW’s, a bus for the bridesmaids and a convertible Beetle for the happy couple.

Add in some cute DIY features, a plethora of pastel blooms (that look like they were plucked from the castle garden fresh this morning), and a stroll around the breathtaking grounds, and we have a rather chic, perfectly intimate and utterly romantic wedding, to swoon over.

The Flowers

We chose roses mainly, but a mixed variation of pastel colours.

I wanted the flowers to be as though they could have been picked from the garden the morning of the wedding.

Sidney’s photos really highlight how good the florist was.

The Music

Our processional was Sigur Ros, Sigur 3, and for the recessional: Angus & Julia Stone, Silver Coin.

Our first dance was Dire Straits, Romeo & Juliet, and for general background music, we had Ludovico Einaudi, In a Time Lapse.

The Photography

We happened to come across a wedding video that Sidney had shot and knew that we wanted him to capture our wedding.

He was both Videographer and Photographer and did an excellent job of both tasks.

His eye for a unique photograph and video editing ability made sure our day was captured in the best way, several people have cried after watching the video!

The Theme

We wanted to keep a pastel colour palette that was in fitting with the castle and its grounds.

We tried to keep decorations and flowers relatively rustic and took inspiration from a lot of sources.

There was a soft Parisian theme as this is where we got engaged, with tables named after Parisian landmarks.

The Details

Our venue decoration was mainly via the florist.

We made the favours by combining material that matched the theme with East of India ribbon. We filled the favours with a mixture of vintage sweets.

Favourite Moment

Everything coming together on the day exactly as we wanted.

Talking with several different suppliers before the day we were worried that things may not pan out as planned.

Walking into the venue and seeing how good a job the florist had done, through to the quality of food and the venue being such a special place was all excellent.

Refreshments

We had a formal sit down meal for the wedding reception and a hog roast and cheese selection for the evening meal.

Our wedding cake was fruit cake base and sponge top that was prepared by a family friend and dressed by the florist.

Advice for Other Couples

Don’t stress about everything that needs to be done, make sure you plan effectively and give yourself time to tackle each thing.

Enjoy every moment of the build up and the day itself, once it’s over you’ll want to do it all again.

People will always want to give you advice, and although this may not match what you want, be courteous of their opinion, it’s nice to know they are thinking of your and your day.

One of the most important things is to manage any politics carefully!

What a beautiful wedding!

I just adore Frances’ hair (pinning it already!) and the photographs by Sidney Diongzon are just spectacular.

I love how it’s a grand castle setting, but it still looks rustic, charming, and intimate.

Thanks so much to Frances and Lee for sharing your romantic fairytale wedding day with us.
