Well, we might have a bit more time on our hands, but we wouldn't be half as inspired!

Traditionally, when a bride to be was newly engaged, their friends would flock around offering go-to sites and gifting them wedding magazines.

But nowadays, all they have to ask is, “Are you on Pinterest yet?”

While many of you may have been using Pinterest since it started for handy recipe, interiors, and outfit inspiration, when it comes to wedding planning, the site is invaluable.

The best thing about Pinterest is that it allows you to source inspiration from all over the internet, from wedding blogs like ours, to venue websites, or designers' own collections.

While we hate the ideas of couples trying to make their weddings look Pinnable, (or blog-worthy for that matter!) often it's the most simple idea, thoughtful detail or pretty feature that makes a bride or groom hit the Pin It button.

A beautiful image they want to show their photographer, a rustic wedding cake they want to attempt at home, or a stunning dress that might just be, The One.

Pinterest plays a big part in how we work at Bridal Musings, how we asses what's popular, how we spot trends, and how we decide what kind of posts to bring you more of.

And with over 3.4 million followers on Pinterest, looking back over our most popular pins for the year made interesting reading.

You guys have a serious sweet tooth for wedding cakes, you're always on the lookout for unique hairstyles, and you'll never overlook a quirky decor detail.

But when it comes to what you guys really loved to pin in 2014… It's all about The Dress.

We've scoured thousands (and thousands!) of our pins from the last 12 months, and in no particular order, these were the ones you liked, shared, and repinned the most…

1. A Rustic Crown

Stephanie and Christopher's Pioneertown wedding was laden with pinnable ideas for rustic decor, unique bridal party style and a very special saloon-style setting.

But your favourite cut-out-and-keep idea from this beautiful wedding? Stephanie's simple, stunning, and utterly stylish flower crown – we love it!

2. A Cosy Gesture

We just love this idea for an outdoor wedding, or evening garden party, and hundreds of our followers on Pinterest did too. And you just adored this prize pic from Natalie and Garrett’s al fresco vineyard wedding as well.

Add a novel idea with some pretty fleece blankets, a simple basket and a cute chalkboard sign, and you don't just have a thoughtful wedding detail, you have this pinnable photo-op too.

3. Chic Stationery

Avril and Cam‘s gorgeous Vancouver wedding at the start of the year, was all kinds of pinnable! The bride was seriously stunning, and the decor, some of the sweetest we've seen this year.

But the two ideas you guys most wanted to covet for your own big day, had to be the soft pink bridesmaid dresses and classic elegant invites. A combination too pretty not to pin.

4. Not Just Desserts

This cake table by Elizabeth's Cake Emporium got serious kudos from our Pinterest followers when it appeared in this super chic Baroque Bridal Shoot by Linen and Silk Weddings earlier this year.

Sugar paste roses, gilded icing cameos and lace embossed tiers, this acclaimed London baker takes wedding cakes to the next level, and couples on Pinterest are loving her work.

5. Backless Berta

We've had a lot of show-stopping collections and stunning wedding dresses on the blog this year, and many of them have been among the most pinned images from the blog.

One of the most stand-out and iconic designers of the year has to be Berta Bridal. You guys repinned their dresses in the thousands, and this one, from their Summer Edition was one of your absolute faves.

6. A Processional Pinnable

While this stunning image from Christine and Philippe’s Spanish wedding by Joseba Sandoval Photography was one of the most iconic real wedding shots of the year (and we think that Claire Pettibone wedding dress might have something to do with it!) you guys also wanted to pin this keepsake snap for another reason.

Linking to our (pretty handy) Processional Songs Playlist, this picture was pinned by those looking for the perfect song to walk down the aisle to. One of the wonders of Pinterest is that all you have to do is pin the picture, and you'll have the link to articles you want to bookmark or re-read forever.

7. Blushing Bridesmaids

Another big bridal trend from 2014 (both on Pinterest, and in real life) was mix and match bridesmaids – creating both chic bridal party looks, and very happy bridesmaids, in dresses that suit their shape.

These sweet short ombre pink bridesmaids dresses by Donna Morgan were a big hit on Pinterest earlier this year, and we reckon contrasting bridesmaids will continue to trend in 2015.

In May this year, we treated you guys to a selection of seriously chic short wedding dresses, and this little vintage beauty, originally from this retro floral accessory shoot with Love Life Studios and Huckleberry Karen Designs was one of your favourites.

One of the prettiest pins of the year, for sure.

9. A Very Stylish Bride

We (and our Pinterest followers) loved absolutely everything about Thomas and Kaiti California chic wedding by Traci Griffin Photography. It was one of our most viewed, commented on, shared, and pinned weddings of 2014. Intimate, romantic, and impossibly stylish.

But of all the gorgeousness of this wedding, the aspect you guys most wanted to borrow for your own big days, was Kaiti's stunning bridal look.

With her capped-sleeved Reem Acra wedding dress, her divine custom made head piece, her glorious waves and her stunning softly smokey make-up; this real bride has inspired hundreds of others, with red-carpet worthy wedding day style.

10. Romantic Readings

Another stand alone stunner of a wedding photograph, that took on a second life as a keepsake pinnable, was this gorgeous shot of Amber and Avi's romantic wedding by Brigham & Co Photography.

We re-featured this image with lines from E.E. Cummings' I Carry Your Heart With Me so couples could pin the excerpt to use the reading for their own wedding ceremony. Beautiful words with such romantic sentiment, we think this timeless poem would make a perfect ceremony reading.

11. Foot Notes

We were warmed up in March by Arielle & Ian’s beautiful beach wedding, which was laden down with ideas for couples planning a tropical getaway of their own.

But one feature you could steal, whether you're getting married on a beach or in a barn, was this neat idea for sweet notes from your bridal party as a cute keepsake on your wedding shoes. Consider it pinned!

12. Our Seductive Shoot

We were both excited and elated earlier this year to share an impossibly chic city wedding shoot which Elizabeth worked on with a team of fabulous London wedding professionals, among them Sam of A Little London Wedding, and Parisa Walklett.

We were even more delighted when you guys started pinning your favourite images from it! But the standout photograph by far from this super glam shoot, had to be this iconic Inbal Dror wedding dress from Morgan Davies Bridal, and our model bride Anna Pinheiro, rocking it.

13. Naked Bakes

Naked cakes were big news in 2014, and if we featured an icing-free bake on the blog, you guys pinned it in your masses.

But one of your favourite rustic sponges of the year had to be from Barry and Bairbre's laid back Irish wedding. Their simple fruit-clad wedding cake was perhaps the most pinned photograph from their gorgeous Carlow wedding – and we get hungry every time we look at it.

14. Chic Chair Back

You guys pinned just about everything from our very first real wedding feature of 2014 – Amanda and Ediz's elegant Gaynes Park wedding by Dasha Caffrey Photography.

With so many pretty details and sweet features (hello polka dots, pink bows and pom poms) this English wedding had seriously stealworthy style – as for the most pinchable and pinworthy? This darling rose-laced chair decor. Ain't it lovely?

15. The Barefoot Bride

We spotted lots of chic bridal accessory trends in 2014, but one of our favourites has to ornate anklets for cool beachy brides. And Pinterest concurred.

Lots, and lots (and lots) of you showed your anklet love by repinning this shot of the boho Laxmi anklets from Grace Loves Lace. We want!

16. Pony Club

Another popular pin that was featured more than once on the blog, you guys were gaga for this chic shot from Berta Bridal.

But while this seductive silhouette is simply swoonworthy, it was the hairstyle you guys wanted to steal for your own wedding day look. And what a pretty pony tail it is too?

17. An Epic Elopement

We fell head over heels for Chris and Robin's stunning mountainside elopement. It left us, and many of our readers inspired to abandon the trappings of a traditional wedding and opt for something altogether simplified.

This stunning shot by Tonie Christine sums their whole celebration up, alternative style, a breath-taking location, and unbridled romance.

18. Barn Dance Decor

Another wedding with each feature as pinnable as the last, Hilary and Gordon’s DIY celebration was by most certainly one of the most shared real weddings of the year.

The little details of this day were off the charts, with mason jars, burlap, lace, blooms, glitter, buttons, tassel garland and chiffon draping. This picture shows just a snippet of the DIY adornments from their day, but it was just enough to inspire lots of couples kitting out their own barn weddings.

Sometimes a dress is so beautiful, that it takes our breath away, even when it's still on the hanger! And that was absolutely true of Alessia's gorgeous Lazaro wedding dress, fit for a princess.

20. Lace Luxury

This pin is another of our most iconic wedding gowns of the year. We featured the latest Flora Bridal collection just weeks ago and already it's been shared, pinned, and repinned hundreds of times, with this dipped back long sleeve lace gown a clear favourite.

Just daring enough, while still being classy, timeless and entirely stylish, we've been pinning this one to our secret boards ourselves!

21. Special Centrepiece

How cool is this centrepiece? We were bowled over by all the meticulous planning that went into Mallarie and Jesse's rose garden wedding. The attention to detail was just spectacular, and you guys were utterly inspired by the abundance of blooms and creative floristry.

But the feature that was shared the most on Pinterest, had to be these rose-clad, tree-style centrepieces. Unique, beautiful and statement features for a wedding.

22. Southwest Bohemian

One of our most unique inspiration shoot concepts this year, our readers adored this Japanese meets Southwest bridal shoot by Liz Anne Photography, For The Love Events and Amy Nicole Floral Studio.

Effortless styling and eclectic decor caught the eyes of many bohemian brides to be, who coveted this easy-to-wear bridal look and ramshackle backdrop enough to hit “Pin”.

23. Soft and Sweet

Some of our most popular shoots this year had to be our look at the biggest wedding cakes of 2014. Let's just say, they made for tasty reading. And the author of the posts just happens to be the baker behind this much-pinned cake too!

An (almost!) too pretty to eat, pastel hued, ornately-adorned floral creation by Jaclyn Campbell of Ivory & Rose Cake Company. What a lady, and what a cake!

24. Pretty Sexy

Yet another of our most coveted dress collections of the year was the irresistibly sexy offering by Riki Dalal. Each dress was more seductive than the last with plunging backs, daring slits, and sheer fronts.

But it was one of the more delicate dresses of the collection that caught the eye of many of our Pinterest followers, with a simple strapless sweetheart style gown and intricate lacework detailing. Effortless sexy, but ultra pretty, playful, feminine and romantic too.
