Hi there, I’m Jackie from Nearly Newly Wed! As a long time fan and friend of Bridal Musings I was so excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the team. And as far as beats go, I could do worse than having my first assignment be covering the next in wedding dress trends at New York Bridal Fashion Week 2018.

Thanks to the internet – and fashionable resources like Bridal Musings – fashion, design, art and culture are at all of our fingertips. Women are thus increasingly attuned to what they want and are asking for it, and that was apparent in many of this year’s collections.
From newcomers to industry veterans, the options and mood were varied and layered. Much of what there was to love was plentiful ways to customize – removable elements, layer-able pieces, and gowns easy to change with an adjustment of styling. We felt a spirit of individuality but not irreverence, a female strength but still a softness.
Many looks pointed back to a more regal, traditional wedding aesthetic but sat alongside (and didn’t feel incongruent with) mod minis and tailored suits. Structured, measured minimalism similarly complimented the romantic and unapologetically embellished looks.

Accessories abounded & weren’t shy; beads, bows and capes, oh my! On gowns we saw long sleeves, high necks, plunging v-necks, thigh-high slits, off-the-shoulder and puff sleeves marking silhouette stand-outs. Star motifs worked into prints and embellishments and fresh, and organic florals were found everywhere from hair pieces, boas, and to cascading ceiling drops.

The theater of the shows underscored the prevailing feelings of strength and individuality – gone is the bride that wants to look the same as all of her friends, if she ever existed. Today’s bride, and collections, have distinct points of view.

At The Plaza, Idan Cohen presented a dramatic, opulent, operatic display while Naeem Khan showed up with disco balls, dancing and glittering girls shimmying to the Beatles.

Galia Lahav danced between the delicate and the dark with a floral bohemia vibe. Berta (who I know we've been swooning over at Bridal Musings this season) showed in a white, sun-drenched loft-like space highlighting the airy romance & seductive sparkle of her collection.

I get to see a lot of gowns. I work with thousands of brides and some of the best boutiques & designers in the world at Nearly Newly Wed (an online shop for the best of bridal). Fall 2018 featured some of the strongest wedding dress collections yet. I can’t wait to see how real brides interpret and style these beauties for their own weddings and make them their own!
