We’re proud to feature so many different weddings her on Bridal Musings, from all over the world, in every type of style. Our couples march to the beat of their own drum and today’s Toronto distillery wedding is no exception. With moody gothic vibes, edgy colors and romantic styling – Christina and Brandon’s wedding fits no particular label but their own.

The venue is positively rustic – the couple married in the Fermenting Cellar in the Distillery District (Toronto has a Distilling District? How rad!) In addition to romantic candles at the ceremony space, chandelier lighting wowed guests making this would-be dark space even more romantic and inviting.

The florals and styling pack a punch – classic, cascading roses perfectly pair with a romantic long sleeve lace wedding dress and not so classic rad blueish black bridal waves. We’ve talked recently about how great it is seeing brides showing off their tats, it’s so cool how you can see hints of color and artistry through the lace laces of her Pnina Tornai gown, so fab.

Our Love Story

After anxiously smuggling a diamond ring through TSA, I took her back to spot in Central Park that we had visited, and fell in love with, the year before. Unfortunately, the park looked very different in December than it had the previous September. As a result, I couldn’t find the exact spot and was nervously searching up ahead in hopes that I would see it.

I kept telling her, “Let’s go look at the water” at each spot, but kept facing the same disappointment when it wasn’t the right one. After a good amount of time, the cold weather started to get to both of us, so I settled on a different place next to the lake, waited for the German tourists to leave, got down on my knee, and asked her to be my wife. Her response was nothing I could ever have prepared for: “Are you sure?”

The Photography

We chose John and AGI Studio after being blown away by the work of his we saw online. The caliber of his wedding photography made perfect sense after learning he had previously been a fashion photographer. We left a lot of the details up to him for both our engagement and wedding photography, as we completely trusted his ability and skill as a photographer, and the results reflect this trust perfectly.

The Venue

When we first saw pictures of the Fermenting Cellar online, we immediately fell in love with its rustic look. Selecting it as our venue was the easiest decision we had to make. From there we handpicked highly-regarded vendors who both fit our personal style, and also who we trusted to make decisions on their own, based on their expertise and creative insight, because we knew the end result would be beautiful.

The Ceremony

For our ceremony, we went with a highly personalized, light-hearted approach. We felt this best represented us as individuals and as a couple, and were extremely pleased with the results.

Our officiant did an amazing job at personalizing our ceremony so as to make it feel like he knew us personally.

The Decor & Details

For our décor and colour palette, we went with a dark, romantic feel. Because the venue is itself a blank canvas, we knew we had to warm it up as much as possible. As such, we chose to fill it with as many candles as possible both to help provide an intimate atmosphere but also to prevent it from feeling empty or cold.

For our décor, we went with mostly whites and silvers, again to stay in line with the look and feel we were going for. Since our wedding was in October, our flower palette reflected the seasonal limbo by not overdoing the bright summertime colours or the dark fall and winter colours.

The Honeymoon

Since our wedding was in October, we had to delay our originally-planned Europe trip honeymoon until the next summer and fall, so a few weeks after our wedding we planned a trip to the Bahamas. Barely missing the end of hurricane season, the weather was not ideal for the first half of our trip, but improved for the second half.

Just under a year later we were finally able to go to Europe, and we ended up spending one week in London and one week in Barcelona, falling in love with both cities in the process. Our advice to other couples is that even if you can’t take a trip immediately after your wedding, make sure you at least do a small honeymoon, if only for one weekend because many people put it off and may not do anything at all in the end. But, if you can, go on the honeymoon of your dreams because it only comes around once.
