Worried about rain? Consider a rustic, barn wedding venue filled with florals

Mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux, non? The first year I shot weddings in France I heard this weekly (summer of 2011 was rough for wedding weather!) But maybe it’s true – “Rainy wedding, happy marriage” – I see nothing but happy couples from that year of weddings (or at least rainy weddings being bad luck is a total falsehood). Today we have some gorgeous rainy-day wedding inspiration that proves your day will be beautiful no matter the weather.

While the overcast outside lent for perfect portrait light, the inside of their rustic barn venue was bright and inviting. Warm tones, cafe lights and faux-candle chandelier set the tone for a beautiful space. The star of the shoot is the oversized, hanging floral chandelier. Dramatic florals can fill a space – like a big open barn – in the most magical way.

The bridal look adds a bit more luxury to the rustic space; a draped, tulle, mermaid gown, romantic low twisted bun and flawless bridal look just absolutely charm us.

The inspiration for this shoot was bringing a refined feel to a rustic setting. The goal was to take the bare canvas of a barn and warm it up with floral and decor elements. The color palette we chose was reminiscent of early winter with hues of white, cream and blush, but contrasted with rich jewel tones of red, burgundy and browns. All accented with gold elements throughout the design. I wanted to include a hanging installation and vintage pieces to create a warm ambiance in what would typically be considered a cold barn.

The shoot was held in Leesburg, VA at a farm called Faith Like A Mustard Seed Farm. The venue and myself, have very much in common including the fact that we have both been in business for a little over a year and have similar tastes and style of design. The venue is unique because it offers a bed and breakfast, a restaurant that is open for brunch during the weekends, several animals on the farm (including horses, goats, cows and more), a full catering service for weddings and events, use of several acres and a beautiful rustic setting that is not very far from the city. One of the venue owners is a trained chef and all the meals provided by the catering service are farm-to-table.
