Rustic Barn Wedding Filled With Candles & Greenery

Everything about this Oregon wedding is rustic, warm and inviting. From the aging barn, to the Fall colors, the natural greenery and cascading candles – all we want to do is post up by the fire and soak in all the warm Autumn wedding feels.

Ali & Jessica advise other couples to focus on the pieces of their wedding day that are most meaningful to them – for the Northwest couple it was creating a cozy space for their guests, and they certainly succeeded. Cornelius Pass Roadhouse is an enchanting, iconic & woodsy barn that provided all the warm Autumn feels for their wedding day.

As if the scene weren’t dreamy enough, the couple draped the space with loads of greenery mixed with blush peonies and ivory roses alongside rows and rows and candles. The centerpiece of their organic decor was the handmade altar they crafted together as a couple – what an incredible and meaningful wedding DIY project!

The warm tones are reflected in Deyla Huss’ charming photographs.

Our Love Stor

We met the old-fashioned way, online. It was an instant connection. We were both doing a lot of traveling at the time so we talked for weeks before being able to meet in person. We set up a coffee date in the park and talked for hours.

Ali proposed to me in Bellingham, WA. We woke up early to get coffee and watch the sun rise over the bay on the last day of our trip there. We picked a bench with a perfect view and she popped the question as the sun came up! (She made sure I had my nails done before the trip too because she’s the best.)

The Dress & Attire

I wanted a traditional and modest dress style with lots of lace. Anna’s Bridal did an amazing job customizing my dress to add sleeves and additional appliques where I wanted.

Ali wanted a feminine classic style. We found the perfect pants with an elegant button detail near the ankle. After looking in every bridal and high-end shop for the perfect lace blouse, without any luck, Facebook recommended a sale H&M blouse that met all her needs! We added a shiny lining and tailored the fit and she looked gorgeous!

The Venue & Flowers

We wanted a cozy feel with lots of candlelight and natural elements for decor. The barn was really the centerpiece for us and everything was chosen to accentuate its beauty.

Our flowers were amazing. We really wanted a lot of greenery and Terri did such an incredible job. She really brought our vision to life. We wanted the flowers to highlight areas of the wedding site and they turned out beautifully. I loved that our bouquets had some shared flowers but Terri really made sure to show both of our personalities and taste in them.

Favorite Moments

We loved our first look because it was so calm and intimate. It was great to just hold each other and enjoy the moment just us two for a little while. We also loved the moment right after we walked back down the aisle together after the ceremony. We went around the corner and behind on of the buildings onsite. It was amazing to just spend as much time together soaking it all in as much as we could.

DIY Details

We actually made our ceremony arch – it was an ambitious task for two people who had never built anything ever but so much fun. We spent months looking for the perfect one and no one had the shape we wanted, so we made it. It was really fun to say our vows under something that we built together.

The Favors

Ali lived in Chicago for a couple of years before meeting me and the original potbelly sandwich shop is from there. She lived across the street from the very first one and it became one of her favorite places while living there. The first year we were together we took a trip to Chicago because the city meant so much to her and she wanted to show me around. Potbelly’s was one of our first stops and kicked off what became a very meaningful trip for us. We packaged a variety of their cookie flavors in thank you bags as our favors and a midnight treat for all of our out of guests (which was pretty much everyone there!)

The Cake

We loved our cake! We ordered one way bigger than we needed because we really wanted that stout round look. We had gotten cupcakes from Lambs about a year before our wedding for a different occasion and were obsessed with the almond poppyseed, marionberry, and cream cheese combo. We had to have it as our wedding cake! We had a whole layer left over! We also offered apple, marionberry, and pecan pies just to make the cake table look more welcoming!

Advice for Other Couples

Keep it simple! Our favorite parts of our wedding truly were just being together, don’t stress yourself out. Spend time focusing on the pieces that mean the most to you and don’t get caught up worrying about too many small things!
