Minimalistic City Chic London Wedding Inspiration

Modern brides digging the city chic monochrome format searching for the color to kick up their decor a bit, we have the inspiration for you: mustard.

Mustard is the earthy, delicious pop of yellow we’re expecting to fill our Fall wedding feeds, and yet it’s standalone. While you can certainly pair this stunning tone with warm neautrals like burgundy & olive – mustard yellow absolutely shines against a muted, black and white wedding palette, as seen in this modern London wedding inspiration.

Mustard candles glow against trendy black and white anemones (swoon!) Bright billy buttons accent a chic, bold tablescape. Gold jewels, akin to our mustard decor, shimmer against minimalistic black-tie attire, which features a sleek and simple silk wedding gown and killer black bridesmaid jumpsuit.

Blonde Army (a fitting name for this golden scene) styled this edgy affair which was photographed in muted, warm tones by the talented Lisa Jane Photography.

From Blonde Army

As a wedding designer, I am always looking to push boundaries and create new trends and aesthetics. I wanted to create a modern and elegant design in a classic setting to demonstrate that a traditional venue doesn’t always seek traditional styling.

I came across Kent House in Knightsbridge, London and knew instantly it would provide me with the perfect backdrop for what I was trying to achieve. I love its original features including the herringbone floor, tall windows and drapes, marble fireplace and cascading staircase.

It’s a neutral space but still oozes history and character which meant my minimal styling would work just as I wanted it to and that each styling element would be a statement in itself, including the venue. I didn’t want to over style and add lots of colour as it would distract from the true beauty and history of the venue.

I worked with a colour palette of monochrome with accents of gold and mustard. Simple, chic and timeless elegance. I combined vintage props and modern design to have an undertone of that old time classic love but keep it fashion-forward and edgy. Understated styling that makes an impact.

The Stationery

One of the most important aspects for me was the stationery. The first glimpse your guests see of your wedding needs to reflect the style and vibe of your day. Nat’s Paper Studio created something simply elegant with clean lines and not too much written content. The card was thick demonstrating quality, the velum provided delicacy and the hand made wax seals showed care and attention to detail. A work of art in their own right and they really represent the vibe of the day.

The Dress & Attire

The bride’s look was created by an absolute dream team. Sylwia Kunysz made the model’s skin glow and enhanced her natural beauty with soft copper tones. Knot Your Average Bride created tousled loose waves for an effortless look. Mcfayden Millinery provided a stunning, handmade 1930’s inspired chapel veil which added that vintage contrast to the brides modern and fresh look.

The bridal wear was specially made for this shoot by Jan Si Fashion. A simple silk two-piece provided that understated, fuss-free elegance. A separate garment with bell sleeves and black velvet studs added that little bit of drama for a statement look. The bride’s shoes are by one of my favourite designers, Freya Rose. Cool and contemporary providing the modern bride with something untraditional but still graceful and sophisticated. Ultra modern with a bold, detailed heel.

The groom’s tux and bow tie were provided by New and Lingwood. I wanted to dress the groom in black tie as it immediately assumes a refined look and that of a classic gentleman. The lapels are in traditional lustres faille weave which adds that extra detail.

The Flowers & Decor

I was very keen to keep the florals to a minimum and create more installation pieces rather than centrepieces. The wonderful ladies at Stems and Bows really understood my brief of ‘more high-end fashion event than wedding’. They updated the ‘floral arch’ to a wall backdrop using three mustard vases and a mixture of pampas, white blossom and tall foliage. I loved how we could rearrange the vases to create different scenes and use them in different areas of the venue.

The table was styled with black napkins and black and brushed gold cutlery. Again another considered element to keep the lines clean and the table tidy. I didn’t want plates and side plates as it would have become too crowded. I used a mixture of white and mustard tapered candles from H&M and Curious Egg to maintain a sleek and composed structure. To continue the combination of vintage meets modern, I used cut glass tumblers and champagne glasses and an original vintage salt and pepper decanter.

The Desserts

I chose not to have a traditional cake but instead a trio of mini cakes so that it would be more personal to each of the guests. Danielle of Bespoke Bakes created a simple trio presented on slate.

The Photography & Videography

The whole shoot was captured by the amazing Lisa Jane Photography. Her style immediately appealed to me as it is raw, edgy and honest. I like the way Lisa frames her shots and how she captures details which is far from the traditional way. She really plays with light and shadow which I knew would work so well the monochrome palette and the silhouettes and shapes I created throughout all styling elements.

Rachel Takes Pictures also captured the essence of the day on film in a more cinematic approach.
