Wildflower Elopement In The Middle Of A Lake

Wildflower Elopement In The Middle Of A Lake – White Poppy Weddings 1

Savanna & Joe married on a floral-filled dock in the middle of a lake in upstate New York, and let me tell you – it was dreamy! While we think you’ll take plenty of inspiration from the organic florals & bohemian style, we’re also hoping this wildflower elopement just beckons Spring for us all!

Quaint, organic & lovely – this summer elopement is picking up our winter spirits. From getting ready together to their dock ceremony surrounded by wildflowers in the middle of Lake Woodrock and even their cuddly canoe portraits, this couple’s day is genuinely charming & so sweetly caught by White Poppy Weddings.

And we’re tickled that Savanna’s white cotton gown – exuding the proper 1970s vintage vibes for a wildflower wedding – was only $40 (amazing!) After trying on plenty of wedding gowns she loved Savannah just happened across a Forever 21 dress that couldn’t have been more perfect, and guess what we found it available here.

Our Love Story

Joe and I originally met on holiday in Cancun in 2013. I remember the resort that we were staying at had posted a photo of Joe & two of his friends on their facebook group and I thought to myself “Who is that hunk?!” Luck has it, that he was one of the first people that I saw upon arrival and we spent the entire week getting to know each other. After leaving Mexico, we kept in touch briefly until 2016 when I moved to London. My first week there, Joe sent me a message inviting me to spend the weekend at his army camp…and the rest is history!

Over Christmas break, Joe and I were staying at his family’s home in Northern England. We typically like to go on long walks in the mornings, so like clockwork, we woke up and went out to one of my favorite spots – a two-hour walk through the rolling hills of England. There are sheep wandering around, a sweet old English farmhouse nestled at the top of the hill and a beautiful reservoir. Little did I know that Joe was going to take only five steps into our walk before he got down on one knee! We were both speechless and excited – BEST WALK EVER!

The Dress & Attire

Earlier in the year, I had tried on wedding dresses at a boutique in a nearby city. Every dress I tried on, I shouted “This is the one!” – they were all so special. I walked away that day realizing that I needed to think on it, which I am so thankful I did. I ended up at the mall one day (with no intentions of looking for a wedding dress) and came across a soft, bohemian detailed dress from none of than – Forever 21! I tried on the dress and it literally was THE ONE (and it was $40!)

Joe and I had agreed earlier on (after I initially tried on dresses) that we would spend in areas that we felt truly made an impact on our celebration, and for me, a dress that I would only wear once was not a priority. I felt incredibly lucky to have come across a dress that was beautiful and affordable.

As for Joe, he wore a beautiful navy dress pant and white button-up with a custom designed tie. We didn’t expect the weather to be as gorgeous (Joe might use the words hot, steamy or unbearable) as it was. We were both very blessed to have had all of the details align with our vision!

“I had the pleasure of capturing an elopement between a Hudson Valley, New York born bride and an English groom. Savanna and Joe decided to rent an AirBnb home in Cortlandt Manor, New York, that is located on a private lake called Lake Woodrock. Savanna and Joe got ready together in the home in the mid-morning and journeyed to one of the docks on the lake by canoe. Once they arrived on the dock, it was adorned by beautiful wild flower installations. The officiant met them out on the dock and the florist and I took another canoe to photograph this insanely intimate ceremony.”

Favorite Moments

We went out for a boozy brunch with my step-dad after eloping. We are both very easy going and love to be silly so eating Boston Cream donuts and downing mimosas was the perfect follow up to our nuptials!

The Honeymoon

As we were married a week before Joe headed back to the UK, we spent our last week together at one of our favorite beaches. It was absolutely magical, we played trivia at a local bar, swam in the ocean and listened to as much live music as we could!
