Sleek and Sexy Modern Wedding Inspiration in Emerald – Marcella Cistola 4

Sexy, sleek, totally chic – this editorial photographed by Marcella Cistola hits all the marks of my own personal dream wedding scene. Art-deco details with modern sensibility, the team has an eye for bridging the gap between vintage glamour and brides of today.

Glamorous makeup & bridal hairstyles are brought to the modern day thanks to modern, minimalistic gowns by the very fashion-forward designers, Sophie et Voilà. It’s no ‘hot take’ that sleek & simple gowns are taking over the wedding world right now (ie, a certain Ms. Markle & hey, even my own A La Robe wedding dress) and Sophie et Voilà are most certainly leading the charge in providing fashion-forward brides silhouettes & embellishments that are far from old-fashioned.

The gentle curves of crepe silk are complemented by free-held calla lily ‘bouquets’ and creative art-deco styled cookies. The 1920’s styled stationery are splashed with a time period appropriate emerald, which glistens against the monochrome scene.

Then there’s the oh-so-appropriate geometric cake – a masterpiece of white fondant, marble-esque details and an emerald ribbon that looks as soft as silk.

For this shoot we were inspired by Tamara De Lempicka as an indisputable model of style, but also as an authentically modern model of a strong and independent woman. We have adopted her painting style made of rigorous shapes and her palette where she combined neutral colors with intense green and passionate red.

Two brides, immersed in a less known but authentic Rome in its formal rigor, which embodies in the geometric cuts of its architecture, lights and shadows, elements and materials of the pictorial style of Tamara and her era.

The dresses, both of the Spanish brand Sophie et Voilà, are inspired by architecture and combine with an ultra-modern style, a retro sensibility where curves and straight lines merge, inspiring a collection for avant-garde women. Each dress is a unique creation made by hand and combines exclusive models with natural fabrics. They are kindly provided by the exclusive Merryme Bridal Boutique, located in the heart of Rome.

The Hair & Makeup

The two brides have retro hair and make-up: the light skin stands out with the bright red of the lips that fades and becomes natural in the interiors. The waves of the hairstyles are soft and more modern for the exterior ceremony and become more refined in the collection version for the reception.

The Cake & Desserts

The majestic cake of the cake designer Annika Toni is the protagonist of the sweet table with its impressive geometric structure. It is decorated with explicit references to Tamara’s paintings, while glazed macarons and biscuits recall the lightness of the fabrics and the forms of fashion.

The Florals & Stationery

The graphic and floral designer Arianna Fabbretti present a stylistic proposal made of simple and clean shapes.

Rigid botanical elements such as the leaves of sterlitzia and the calla flowers present in the paintings of Tamara De Lempicka, are opposed to other soft and malleable like the lotus leaves, bell grass and scabiosa. The callas are inserted in light glasses with linear geometric shapes and create curved and dynamic lines. We find this contraposition of forms in the two bouquets: the first of calla lilies and leaves of sterlitzia, tapered like a poetic spear, the second round made up of a simple lotus leaf or that holds small calla lilies and scabiosa.

Mis en Place

The beautiful line of Hermès H Decò, courtesy of Limentani, is inspired by art deco wrought iron friezes and, the green elegant glasses, with their refined style, fits perfectly into the spaces of the Rose Garden Palace in Rome, where the furnishings are a mix of ethnic and modern styles, with neoclassical elements.
