Today, we’re sharing the most adventurous road trip honeymoon across one of the most mythical, stunning and unique islands in the world, Iceland.

The couple, photographers themselves, documented the adventure through photos and film, and it’s so tempting to hop on a plane right now!

Beyond their fabulous travel tips, we love the idea of bringing along a photographer or videographer for a portion of your honeymoon to capture the newlywed magic. Often, even as a photographer myself, I wish I had something to capture our travels and us together (not just selfies!) so we could put away the phones and cameras and enjoy ourselves.

The Wanderlusters

We decided to travel to Iceland, as we both wanted to see the beautiful nature that’s unique for Iceland. I work as a photographer, with a main focus on weddings, my wife is also a talented photographer – and of course my favorite model.

As we wanted a holiday a bit different than what we are used to, Iceland was the perfect destination for spending a lot of time outside, beautiful nature and an absolutely perfect place for most photographers!

We rented a Land Rover SUV with a small sleeper option in the back, this gave us the unique opportunity to go wherever we wanted and camp out when we got tired of driving, or found a beautiful spot.

Our Favorite Sights In Iceland

Early morning, before it’s too crowded visit Reynisfjera or Black Beach as it’s known. Across from the beach sits a cliffside lookout called Dyrhólaey you can view all its grandeur.

Throughout Iceland, we enjoyed all the warm lagoons we found along the way. And of course, driving through Thingvellir, where you can see one of the clearest waters in the world and a tectonic plate boundary, into the amazing scenery and green mountains in the area.

Happy Together Films Travel Advice

Visit every waterfall you can, because each one is different and unique: we recommend Gullfoss and Dettifoss.

Mountain walking and trekking in Skaftafell; the glacier is spectacular and near the glacial lagoon.

For a wonderful alternative to Blue Lagoon, less people and much cheaper, visit Lake Myvatn Nature Baths.

Whale watching in Iceland is a breathtaking experience. For a sustainable and responsible crew, we recommend hiring North Sailing.

Always check the aurora forecast and try to calculate your next steps accordingly with the cloud cover in your area. Watching the Northern Lights is an incredible experience, so be prepared with good clothes, water and leave your cell phone behind (because the mobile light sometimes interferes with your vision).

Akureyri is the second biggest city in Iceland. is a wonderful stop for long trips because you can find good restaurants and big supermarkets.

Our favorite accommodation in Iceland is Fossatun. Here you have free hot tubs outside and if you are lucky you can watch northern lights while you’re in the tub.
