Are you one of those couples who never want the love fest to end? Why celebrate just one day when you can have an epic all weekend wedding bash?! Coline and Mathieu threw a three-day fashionable fête on the gorgeous French isle of Corsica, and it was filled with bridal pieces, menswear & resort ensembles we will be pining for this summer.

Three days of party mean at least three fashionable ensembles, no? Coline rocked stylish, boho, cool-bride looks all weekend long, starting with her short & flirty boho civil ceremony dress from Opullence and a super sweet floral crown. For the main event, Coline lived it up in French designer Rime Arodaky‘s oh-so-trendy & chic bridal separates. And finally, selected a frilly, fabulous white one piece and a straw hat for the sunkissed beach party.

While planning a destination wedding from far away can be tricky, the couple had two years to truly think through the logistics, and create plenty of personal details to make their destination wedding totally them. We are totally digging the custom papel picado with a fun nod to their friends in Mexico (already shopping through their catalog Coline!)

Our Love Story

We met on my home-island, Guadeloupe, while I was back for holidays and Matthieu was doing an internship. We were at a beach party, I had some friends from France over and Matthieu was with his colleagues.

Guadeloupe is such a small island, that I had already noticed their group because I didn’t know who they were and Matthieu was wearing his glasses, with sunglass clip-on’s flipped on his forehead!

A party was taking place the next weekend on another island and my friends and I were looking for a ride (on a boat). They came over and talked to us and invited us on their boat for the next weekend and that’s how it all started.

The Destination

I am from a small island in the Caribbean, and Matthieu is from Corsica, an island off the coast of France and Italy in the Mediterranean. When we got engaged, we naturally chose to have it in Corsica because it is such a beautiful place! When the place was decided, I insisted we get married in the small historic church of Murato, the most beautiful I have ever seen with a breathtaking view over the Gulf of Saint Florent. The first time we drove past that church after a year of dating Matthieu, I secretly thought to myself that I would really want to get married there.

We chose to have a three-day ceremony to really be able to enjoy our family and friends reunited from all corners of the earth! I wanted to show them what Corsica has to offer which is why part of the celebrations took place in the mountains, a part of Corsica that is less known by tourists, but then we had the brunch on one of the most beautiful beaches!

The Dress & Attire

For me, wedding dress shopping was a wonderful experience with my mom and sisters. I had no set idea of what type of dress I wanted, so I tried on all sorts of different types of dresses. I fell in love with the Caplan and Pennington separates by Rime Arodaky, my face literally lit up when I came out of the changing rooms! The whole team there was very nice and understanding of the stress linked to not being able to do the fittings as regularly since we don’t live in Paris. Thanks to their advice the dress fitted perfectly and everyone complimented me on it.

Concerning the outfits, Matthieu never wears a suit so this was a little bit tricky. When we started looking at the mainstream brands we soon realized that they were almost the same price as a custom-made suit, and since we had the time to get it custom made that’s what we decided to do. Matthieu really enjoyed choosing the different options on his suit and having the really good advice from all the people at Faubourg Saint Sulpice in Paris.

The Venue

We had a difficult time choosing the venue as the region where we chose to get married is not very touristy… But one day we were watching a show on TV and rediscovered a restaurant right next to the church that we had chosen!

We visited the summer after that and absolutely fell in love with the view, the old barn house and the family-run restaurant serving high quality typical Corsican food. Also, the restaurant is in the middle of the mountains so we could party until whatever time we wanted, and that was a plus!

The Photography

We met Maggi while living in Africa, and became very close friends in very little time (difficult countries do that to you!) We followed online as her photography career really took off and fell in love with all her pictures.

When we got engaged, Matthieu who is camera shy told me that the only way that he would accept to do bridal portraits was if Maggi was the one to photograph our wedding! So we didn’t really have a choice.

We are so happy to have chosen them to photograph our wedding. They got along so well with all of our friends and family, despite the language barrier, everyone loved them!

The Details

The color palette and rustic decoration kind of imposed itself on us with the choice of the venue. The view and venue were already so beautiful that there wasn’t much to do. We chose a pastel peach and green palette but didn’t make a big deal of following it too closely.

For the flowers, for example, we only wanted seasonal flowers and as local as possible, to minimize our environmental impact. As for the papel picado on the ceiling and at the civil wedding and brunch – they were a must-have for me! I lived in Mexico for a few months and attended a wedding while I was there and absolutely loved the papel picado!

We had two years to plan our wedding, we wanted to take our time and also planning from abroad can be a little be tricky sometimes. I am so happy we took those two years because it allowed us to really think through the type of wedding that we wanted and to think of all the small details that made our celebration so unique and perfect to our eyes.

We also did a lot of things ourselves, like the paper goods for example. They were done thanks to the drawings of our talented mothers and the help of Lucille, my witness that is a graphic designer. Our moms also helped make all the wooden signs. This allowed us to spend quality time with our family and have unique decoration and details for our wedding!

Advice to Other Couples

The advice I have is: don’t sweat the small stuff. Most guests are there to witness and participate in the bond of the two people they love. A lot of the details, although they are important because they give the overall vibe to the wedding, go unnoticed to the majority of guests. You are the only person that will notice that something isn’t as planned. So just live in the moment, have no regrets, and take it all in because it goes so fast! I know everyone says it, but its true.

Also, plan extra getting ready time. I had planned an hour to get dressed with my bridesmaids, and that really wasn’t enough. We ended up being late and rushing out, not something you want to do on your wedding day!
