Classic Seattle Waterfront Wedding

I get a little choked up when I see a sunny Seattle wedding. Growing up with ten months of rain and overcast (or UK brides might relate!) when late summer hits the Pacific Northwest is so breathtaking. Everyone hits the waterfront and the wedding season is packed into a wild couple months. Today’s Seattle seaside wedding is so classic to my childhood memories of those euphoric summertime rays.

Planning their wedding from afar (Alabama!), Susannah and Chas chose a classic seaside spot to say their vows and celebrate thereafter. Boasting a dock, marina, and boathouse vibes, the wedding was a little bit boho (that free-flowing Truvelle dress!) and a lot elegant.

Speaking of dress, Susannah shopped at one of my favorite Seattle bridal salons – where I’ve bought my own gownThe Dress Theory. High five bridal bud! Chas looked dapper in black tie and their glorious twenty-four person bridal party matched in “Seattle grey” – so fitting.

Our Love Story

We met in college at Furman University after bonding over our mutual love for fun, friends, and dogs.

Chas proposed around Christmas, 2016. The proposal did not go exactly how Chas planned (i.e. he stepped in dog poop and did not realize until he was down on one knee) – but it a was perfect and hilarious way to start our forever together. We continue to love our fun, friends, and dogs – especially our son, an adorable 2-year old golden retriever.

The Wedding Venue & Vibes

Our wedding was at The Seattle Tennis Club on a beautiful sunny Seattle day. It is hard to beat the Seattle weather in August and a view with Mt. Rainier in the background. We planned most of our wedding from afar because we currently live in Birmingham, Alabama – Susannah grew up outside of Seattle & Chas grew up in Thomaston, Georgia.

We both love neutral colors, so our flowers were mostly white with lots of greenery, the groomsmen wore navy and bridesmaids grey. We had 24 people in our wedding party – which made for lots of fun wedding festivities

Favorite Moments

Chas’s Brother (Cam Short) officiated our wedding – he did an amazing job and it was so nice having somebody who knew us and our relationship lead our wedding ceremony.

He was also a hit on the dance floor at the reception. He even sprained his ankle dancing – but that didn’t slow him down when he explored and hiked the Pacific Northwest the week after our wedding with his wife.

During the ceremony, Susannah’s grandfather read a passage he assembled from both scripture and literature. It was so meaningful to have our family make our ceremony special and personal.

The Photography

Our photographer, Joe Tobiason, was beyond amazing. We chose him to be our photographer because all his pictures are so natural, and he really takes the time to get to know the couple.

He made everybody feel relaxed in front of the camera & he captured all the emotions and fun of our wedding day so perfectly.

Advice for Other Couples

Have fun! As cliché as it sounds, just enjoy your day, and don’t get caught up in the details. Everybody is there for you and to celebrate – they won’t know if things don’t go exactly how you planned.

Also, be sure to take a moment after the ceremony to just be together alone.

The Honeymoon

We decided to delay our honeymoon until about 7 months after our wedding. We loved spending the days right after our wedding with friends and family who traveled so far to celebrate with us!
