This Provencal sunflower elopement inspiration is as dreamy as it gets

When I imagine Provence I picture candy-colored chateaus, wafts of sweet lavender flowing through the air, and rows of magnificent sunflowers. I would imagine running away to elope in Aix-en-Provence would be as dreamy as it could get.

Today’s real couple didn’t quite elope, but their engagement shoot with Teri B wandering the hills and farms of Provence evoke those wild feelings of a runaway Provencal fête. I imagine Julia Childs baking up a fresh lemon thyme wedding cake, warm tomato galettes for a wedding day lunch. Oh, how sweet it would be!

Taking inspiration from those wild, beautiful sunflowers waving in the breeze, our bride-to-be styled herself a sunny yellow bouquet of roses, peonies and ranunculus. With a casual, flirty dress for flying through the hills, Pricilla then swapped for a royal-worthy custom-made gown with off-the-shoulder sleeves and fashion-forward pockets (yes!)

This darling bride reached out to me after finding photos I had shot online from Sunflower fields in Provence, France – it was her dream to find and shoot in sunflower fields. Her finance had proposed with a room full of sunflowers and her ring was actually a stone in the shape of the flower as well. We hit it off immediately and our shoot was scheduled for the last week in August.

Fields of flowers (lavender and sunflowers) usually peak the end of June and are finished come July, but we were ambitious and excited to shoot in the beautiful South of France regardless. We drove out past Aix-en-Provence with all eyes out for fields of golden flowers, fueled purely by hope.

I knew some vague routes from my trips there before. Kenneth, the groom and our fearless driver, made a wrong turn towards the town we were headed to. We got off on a side country road, looking for a place to turn around we stumbled upon them – a tiny, but mighty, field of the most beautiful sunflowers. We both shrieked! I still feel bad for the grooms earbuds.

We frolicked around and giggled like young girls. once we came to our senses I shot some engagement photos for the couple. We continued on our way to shoot around Provence and later up in Paris, glowing the entire way.
