Regal & Colorful Moroccan Palace Wedding Inspiration

luxury wedding photographer in marrakech

Morocco is magical. For years, I’ve been drawn to Moroccan weddings and spoiled with photographing a few myself. There’s nothing like a traditional Moroccan fête – colorful decor in ornate palaces, dramatic dress changes, and enormous tiered cakes. Today’s inspiration celebrates these regal traditional Moroccan elements catered to the modern couple.

Taking advantage of her family vacation home, Charlotte Ricard of La Fête planned and designed a bridal styled shoot fit for Moroccan royalty. The stunning palace was filled with colorful florals, textiles, treats and balloons and paired with luxe antique silver and gold lanterns, tables and crockery. Six tiers seemed adequate for such a royal event – the traditional cake, in bright candy colors and gilded so ornately, is an absolute showstopper.

Enter our absolutely modern and just as regal bride and groom. Featuring two stunning Galia Lahav gowns from Brides Do Good (read on about their fabulous cause!) our bride is nothing less than a Moroccan queen. A sexy and romantic lace sheath gown is followed by maybe one of the most magnificent sweetheart ballgowns we’ve ever seen – absolutely fit for the modern princess – twirling in that dreamy Marrakech light captured by Roberta Facchini Photography.

From La Fete

This is a very special shoot for me as it took place at my family vacation home in Marrakech, somewhere I have always felt would be just so perfect for a wedding. There is a natural beauty and rawness to Morocco that many people find spellbinding, myself included. In this shoot I wanted to showcase how you can combine traditional and modern Morocco, using the stunning natural light and beautiful colours and scenery that is so unique to the country. The colour inspiration for this shoot is jewel tones, metallics and bold, traditional patterns.

The style vision for this shoot was to try and represent a modern couple getting married in Morocco, a land that combines both strong traditions and a bright and colourful lifestyle. I wanted to create this is a Palace setup where each detail of the venue reflected the feeling of the shoot. The key point here was elegance and class, whilst mixing in the palm trees, Moroccan lamps and colourful dishes!

As a planner and stylist, I come up with the concept, mood and general feel of a shoot, but then I rely on picking the most talented suppliers knowing that their style will not only suit that of the shoot, but will enrich it and make it even more unique.

With her experience as a destination wedding photographer, her romantic style, amazing use of light and natural talent, Roberta Facchini was an easy choice for the photography. The light was perfect, the colours were vibrant and combined with her natural talent, she was truly able to bring this Palace vision to life cultural vision to life.

Alessandro Bordoni is an incredibly talented videographer that has been capturing weddings across the world in the most magical way. I approached him knowing that he would be the best person to portray this combination of modern, colourful luxury style with a twist of Arabian flair!

I knew in my mind that I needed an absolutely unique and super colourful cake to be created for this shoot. And so my first and only choice really, was to approach Elizabeth from Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium to create a bespoke design.

Taking inspiration from the mood board which featured the bold bright colours traditionally found in a souk, she created a tall and ornate six tier cake in alternating deep pink and orange with opulent gold baroque detailing that included a swag and drop design. The cake was topped with a sphere to mimic the dome shapes found on some of the local buildings. The cake contrasted well against the neutral colours of the Palace and was a focal point.

With her beautiful and bright stationery, Sinead from Papergrace created for the shoot a bespoke colourful design inspired from the Arabian nights, which completely fit the feel and mood of the shoot.

For the hair and makeup, Eva Couturier was my first choice. I had been following avidly her work and admiring her ability to deliver both amazing makeup looks and unique up-dos, she didn’t disappoint! Her knowledge of the oriental world, allowed her to beautify the model and be in total harmony with the theme.

I was also honoured to be supporting Brides Do Good who kindly provided the Galia Lahav Jasmine gown for this shoot. Brides do Good offers brides-to-be the opportunity to purchase the world’s most beautiful pre-loved and sample designer wedding gowns with the mission to help the United Nations eradicate child marriage worldwide by donating a proportion of all sales to charities fighting this cause.

Harriet Wilde supplied us with the most gorgeous and ornate bridal shoes that fit the brief perfectly, and London Victorian Ring generously lent me a stunning sparkler that I guarded with my life whilst we were out there!

Christian Pierre Vanhoutte, based in Marrakech, is the lead florist for all fabulous events taking place in Morocco, so he had to be the one that would bring this shoot the floral touch! He and his team delivered the most incredible and colourful flowers for the day.

“The golden hour was magical that day. Watching the “bride and groom” walk through the palm trees in the garden was straight out of a fairytale for me. It was truly magical.”
