Elegant Chef’s Table Wedding In Colonial Culinary New Orleans

Last month we shared a jazzy, festive wedding while I was jetting off to the very same city New Orleans for the first time. After spending a wild Thanksgiving week there I came away with the notion that Nola is far more foodie-friendly than anything – so it’s no surprise that Netflix hit Chef’s Table creator David Gelb married in the culinary capital.

The stunning Southern city is featured in this Arte De Vie wedding in the most elegant way. A colonial home and gazebo set the tone for a formal, black tie wedding. With a private ceremony inside (by the bride Christine’s own mother, a judge!) and more lavish ceremony outside for friends, the whole day is so classy.

We wish so badly we could have tasted the wedding dinner of such a food-focused couple, but at least we can ooh and ahh over the decadent & classic white tall tiered cake.

It makes perfect sense that David Gelb, creator of Chef’s Table, would want to host his wedding in New Orleans, a city infamous for its culinary lore.  Christine and David met in L.A. while discussing the release of his culinary documentary, Christine being on the financing end and David on the creative side.

Aside from the food connection with New Orleans, the bride’s family resides in the city where her mother is a judge, and her father a neurologist. Since David and Christine now call the west coast home, New Orleans was the perfect central location for everyone to meet and celebrate!

The Dress & Attire

On the wedding day, bridal preparations began early at the bride’s parent’s house in the Garden District of New Orleans. Christine donned a Jenny Packham gown from Saks Beverly Hills. It was the perfect dress for her as it oozed with old Hollywood Glamour with the beading detail on the sleeves and the entire dress. Her Nicholas Kirkwood shoes were the perfect unique complement to the wedding gown.

One by one the bridesmaids made their way down the staircase in exquisite Jenny Yoo gowns that looked like a beautiful watercolor painting. My heart skipped a beat because the color palette of the house (as well as the rest of the day) seemed to coincide with their dresses perfectly! Each bridesmaid was able to express her own personality by tying the dress in a different style.

The First Look

Once everyone was ready, the bride and groom met each other outside the house for their first look. There were no theatrics for them, only pure love and joy to see one another and be in each other’s arms, ready to spend the day surrounded by the ones they love, including their cute pup dressed in a tux for the occasion!

The Private Ceremony

The couple then retreated indoors to the family living room for an intimate ceremony officiated by the bride’s mother, a judge in New Orleans. It was the perfect setting, surrounded by their parents and members of their wedding party. The day then continued under the oaks at historic Elms Mansion on St. Charles Avenue in the Garden District. The elegant mansion’s combined indoor and outdoor space was the perfect venue for their some 200 guests.

The Reception

A friend officiated the ceremony in front of their guests under a white gazebo adorned with lush greenery. Everyone enjoyed a few hours outdoors for cocktails, dinner, and dancing with a live band.

But the night didn’t end there once the noise ordinance set in, as they moved indoors to the saloon room of the mansion for a New York style dance party with a DJ. The party was in high gear by this time, and the five-hour reception turned into six when they found that five hours simply wasn’t enough time! This was an extremely exuberant group of friends and family. The energy in the room was contagious!
