Okay lovelies, here’s a feel-good story: friends and family rallied around this couple to gift them a simple boho wedding of their dreams – and it was beautiful!

One could hardly imagine this boho desert wedding had any budget concerns when you see all the fabulous details. For one, Rosalva & Seth’s ceremony space sported the coolest, handmade macrame altar hanging. Then there’s the dessert bar, not only were guests spoiled with a decadent two-tiered cake but also a wall hanging filled with donuts (find out how to make yours here).

The couple was able to make it happen thanks to generous gifts from close friends and family, along with reasonable budgeting and fabulous vendors. Their florist made magic happen in their ideal budget and even their venue – which included so much of the wedding-day needs – granted them a discount for newly opening. Hear that, lovelies? Be on the lookout for new venues!

Our Love Story

In May of 2016, I had just arrived in Seattle from a long drive as I moved my stuff across the country. I was meeting a team of people helping to start a church in Seattle and that night I met Seth. I introduced myself and taught him how to say my name. “Like Resolve the carpet cleaner with an ‘a'”. Seth and I met at a very pivotal time in our lives. He, an Architectural Designer from Colorado, fresh out of college, beginning his career and she, also out of college, from Arkansas and following a call to help serve the Seattle area as a part of Roots Community Church.

We consequently went on our first date a year after meeting. Unfortunately this was also at the same time that I had plans to move to Arizona to begin working with another church, so our time was limited together in Seattle. The following month and a half was filled with camping on the beach, sailing through the Puget Sound at sunset, racing through Northern Washington, plenty of coffee shop visits and spontaneous dates. Then came long distance. I moved to Arizona at the end of July following a WA-CA-AZ road trip.

The Proposal

We were dating long distance, Seth was in Seattle and I had moved to Phoenix so we were attempting to make trips monthly to see each other and it was my turn to make a trip to Seattle. The morning started with donuts at my favorite place in Seattle called General Porpoise (I promise if you go visit Seattle and go to this shop you will not be disappointed). We then headed north of Seattle to do the hike that we did on our first date called Rattlesnake. This moment was so magical because it was snowing at the top and we weren’t expecting that!

He then took me to a massage parlor to get a massage and back to where I was staying to get ready for “dinner”. That night as we were headed to dinner I started to recognize the route that we were on. The drive looked like we were going to Discovery Park in Ballard and when I asked Seth why we were headed there he said he wanted to show me something.

We got out of the car and he pulled out a balloon that lit up from the trunk and I started getting suspicious. When we walked up to a field with LED-lit balloons I knew instantly – it was dark outside, cold and rainy, a PERFECT Seattle proposal. As we walked a path of balloons, each balloon represented a special moment in our relationship and the arc of balloons at the end was where he got down on one knee. As soon as I said yes and kissed him, he yelled out “come out here” and from the darkness there came out about 20 of our friends yelling. Seth is extremely organized so I could show you charts and layouts of where people were supposed to hide the exact location of each of the balloons. It was an amazing proposal.

The Dress & Wedding Style

I actually went to BHLDN the day after I got engaged and decided on a dress almost immediately…then, I had second thoughts and decided to try David’s Bridal. I’m so glad I did because I decided on a sweet and simple backless lace dress. I had some work on it done so it wasn’t so form fitting but I loved the simple details like the eyelash lace.

I wanted our wedding to be simple, modern, and romantic. I envisioned greens, white, greys and hints of purple. Since we were doing our wedding in Phoenix I wanted a desert feel. We had so many choices here in the valley and narrowing it down was hard!

The Budget & Planning

We honestly had a crazy story. We got engaged on January 26 and were planning to get married on May 19th. We had to plan quickly and efficiently so there was a lot we decided to skip on. Before we were even married and only talking about engagement we had a sweet couple who are dear friends who knew our financial situation and they made a big contribution to our wedding. Our family and sweet friends added to that gift and made our wedding a dream. We scaled down on a lot of things but because of the sweet contribution from the couple we didn’t have to skip on the big things, only small things like the favors! We probably splurged the most on the venue but that was because so much was included in our venue cost! The awesome thing is that the venue was new and doing a discount so it worked out!

Favorite Moments

The ceremony was amazing. Seeing the people that had driven hundreds of miles, and flown from all over the US was beautiful. They were there to celebrate us and we felt loved. Looking back at our pictures from the ceremony is always the best!

We also did a secret dance at the end of the night. As our guests got ready for the sparkler exit Seth and I got to dance under the stars and alone to the song that was our second choice for our first dance. This was probably both of our favorites. It gave us a chance to step back, stop, and just enjoy one another without the pressure of cameras or people. That’s a moment I’d love to relive. It was our DJ’s idea and I’m so glad he suggested it!

The Veil

A good friend of mine loaned me the veil that she got married in and it was a cathedral lace lined veil and it was absolutely gorgeous. It was special to wear something from such a dear friend.

The Flowers

Our florist was AMAZING! She said, “give me a budget and I will work to get you beautiful flowers within that range.” Let me tell you, the budget we gave her was not big…. at all, but she gave us dreamy flowers. She put French Anemones, roses, greenery and some little purple flowers and the results were gorgeous!

The Cake

We went really simple on our wedding cake. Simple white, two-tiered cake with a wooden topper of our last name and some greenery.

Advice to Other Couples

I would say this: if you stress out about the details and about everything that needs to get done you will not having fun doing what’s supposed to be incredibly fun. Don’t stress out pleasing people, just focus on what’s important to you and let the rest just be!

The most common piece of advice we got was to not give wedding favors and I took that advice and am so glad I did!

My biggest advice is to always keep the big picture in front of you. Not everything will go as planned – my groom’s cake almost didn’t make it to the wedding but that wasn’t what was important to me. I just wanted to marry my guy and I didn’t let that ruin the day. To me, our wedding day was absolutely perfect.
