Rainy & Romantic Breakfast Wedding (With Waffles!)

Don’t let rain in the forecast get you down, babe! This mystical, misty Ozark wedding shows how oh-so-romantic rainy weddings can be. And who doesn’t love waffles?! (No one, no one turns down waffles).

I don’t know about you, but my husband and I are ‘morning people’. Our favorite part of the day is luxurious mornings together where he works his french press magic and I bake and cook away in the kitchen – it’s our never-ending romance. So I can absolutely relate to the choice this couple made to host a breakfast & coffee morning wedding, who wants to wait all day to say ‘I do’?!

Hosting the event at the bride’s grandparent’s home, the day was filled with personal details. The family all pitched in their talents to create this beautiful, ethereal day including Bride Maggie’s grandmother’s locket & cinnamon roll recipe, Groom Aaron’s handiwork creating the alter, and the couples parent’s decorating and creating favors for the day.

But of all the adorable, personal details of the day, we have to say we are particularly charmed by Maggie & Aaron’s heart-shaped waffle cake. How cute!?

Our Love Story

We met one Sunday at church. There was a church potluck that day that I was staying for. He typically goes to eat lunch with his sister and brother-in-law, so after church, he got in their car like normal. But before they left the parking lot, he made them stop the car and told them he thought he would rather eat at the potluck that day. He came back inside and found the open seat next to me!

We visited my family on one Sunday night and he took my dad off for that secretive talk. I’m pretty sure my dad warned him about what he is getting into! We were hanging out at his house for a little bit later that night and he all of a sudden ran to his room and returned with something in his hand. He proposed right then and there. Come to find out, he had actually been planning a proposal at Crystal Bridges (a beautiful, local museum) later that week. However, he ended up being too excited and couldn’t wait any longer! It was perfect.

The Dress & Attire

My sister found the bolero with the bell sleeves and said, “Maggie this is it. This is you.” And she was perfectly right. I didn’t really know what I wanted in a dress, but I knew I wanted some kind of big bell sleeve and lace. So once we found the bolero, it didn’t take long to find the perfect dress to pair with it!

Leigh from Inverness absolutely made the day even more perfect. We went to a few places, but her care of and genuine excitement for all of her brides is unparalleled.

The crystal crown was custom made by Talk to The Palm Crystals. She creates beautiful designs and is so sweet to work with! I also wore my maternal grandmother’s gold locket – my sister had actually just gotten married two months prior and wore the same locket!

Aaron’s suit was bought off the rack at JCP. He chose everything himself + it looked great! His big splurge was a new pair of boots for the big day!

The Venue & Vibes

We chose to have our ceremony and reception at a field my grandparents own. I (the bride) grew up having birthday parties, Easter egg hunts and family events there. Luckily, the first time Aaron saw that part of Arkansas he fell in love with it, too. It’s incredibly green and lush and close to the Buffalo National River. Quite beautiful.

The vision wasn’t really too dramatic. We knew we wanted all of our friends and family to be able to be there but for it to have a very natural, laid-back vibe. Aaron built the arbor and the benches. We knew we wanted to play up the green of the pines and the field so we stuck with jewel tone and neutral colors.

It ended up misting that morning, so we lucked into an ethereal look and feel, as well!

Vase and Vine created our beautiful greenery bouquets and the greenery that was on the arbor! Simple and perfect!

Favorite Moments

The most amazing thing was seeing so many cars continue to pull up even though it was raining a teeny bit! We loved seeing everyone so carefree and happy, just celebrating and having fun together!

We did a first look and that was lovely to have some time with just us before the chaos of the day.

The Brunch & Dessert

We chose to skip spending money on a cake and catered food. We had a mid-morning wedding, so we did brunch food. In lieu of a traditional cake, we cut into a waffle cake and had homemade cinnamon rolls (the bride’s grandmother’s recipe) for dessert!

The Photographers

We both wanted to have photographers who made us feel comfortable and at ease. Plus, they obviously needed to be extremely talented. So, that was a big necessity in our budget. I’d say we chose perfectly on that one with Cindy & Emily!

The DIY Details & Favors

We gave away custom mugs that said: “I wanted to know if you would have coffee and breakfast with me for the rest of our lives?”

The bride’s mother also created fans that had a photo of us on one side and a scripture plus the date on the other side. It didn’t end up hot as we expected, but everyone still wanted one! We also had a Polaroid-style camera for our guests to take photos as keepsakes. We had it stationed beside a metal arch/arbor that the bride’s great uncle had made years ago – that arch has been in at least four family weddings!

Aaron made all of the benches (with a little help from his dad and granddad on a few benches!) and the arbor! Maggie made all of the food (with a little help from her family!) The groom’s mother made the table tops for the welcoming table and dessert table. The bride’s dad even built a restroom out in the field for guests to have available

Advice to Other Couples

We had a session with our photographers beforehand, as well as a laid back discussion about details and what we were looking for in our photos. You have those photos for the rest of your life, so it’s really nice to have photographers who feel more like friends and who understand what you want!

The best thing about a wedding is getting married and bound to your best friend. You won’t remember everything, things will most certainly go wrong and you won’t agree on absolutely everything for the wedding. But that’s the beauty of it. It’s a showcase of the two of you as you begin your life together. Enjoy the wedding planning and don’t lose sight of the reason you’re putting it all together. The most perfect thing that day will be looking right into their eyes and knowing you have your best friend and partner for life.
