Being flexible in your wedding planning is key for sanity as things may not always go as planned – you may need to postpone your date due to the current crisis (here are some tips on how to change your date), or you may need to move your date up like this adorable South African couple.

When the bride’s maid of honor became pregnant with a due date matching Ashleigh & Earl’s original wedding date the couple proved their adaptability and moved their wedding date up five months giving just four weeks left to plan (giving ease & inspiration for couples currently stressing about changing wedding dates right now!)

Shifting their wedding date didn’t stop the couple from doing things ‘their way’. Early & Ashleigh made loads of fun, modern & unorthodox choices that represented them as a couple, and the kind of party they always dreamed of. From having a dreamy morning ceremony, a geometric gown & decor to match, toasting the marriage over breakfast, a crepe cake & fun desserts the wedding was unique & special.

Our Love Story

Earl and I met through work, and the rest is a fairytale. He proposed on the 27th Feb 2019 which was my 29th birthday. I absolutely love my birthday and its always my favourite day (he knows me so well). We went along with normal birthday traditions of going for an early morning run on the Durban promenade and meeting friends at a local coffee shop where we sit down to watch the sunrise, sip on some great coffee and always take a birthday selfie before starting the day.

But this day it was a little different… this day the birthday selfie apparently had to be on the beach? “Because it was such a great day”. Confused, but always up for a great photo, I went along with the plan. The next minute there was Earl down on one knee asking me to marry him on the beach with the sun-rising. The biggest surprise and THE BEST DAY EVER. I obviously said yes straight away and was the happiest girl that day, but to then turn around and see both sets of parents walking down onto the beach to congratulate us was just the cherry on the top.

Surrounded by friends and family on your birthday and the day you also get engaged, you just can’t get any better than that. Earl obviously got major brownie points that day for including the parents in this special time, from them and myself. It was such a special and a day full of surprises and memories that will last forever. I couldn’t have dreamt of a better proposal. He did good!

The Dress

My dream dress was made by the fabulous Julia Ferrandi and wow did she totally get exactly what I had in mind – geometric statement – she got it so right and I felt sensational and comfortable the whole day!

The Planning

Earl and I wanted a wedding out of the ordinary and something that expressed who we are and what we are as a couple – so waking up in the early morning, running and watching sunrises is something that is just a part of who we are.

So what better way to get married than at sunrise and have an early morning breakfast wedding! We wanted it to be extremely laid back and just a happy day where we could enjoy every aspect of the day with family and friends and also not worry about time constraints of the venue and the party coming to an abrupt end.

Favorite Moments

We couldn’t have asked for anything more as that is exactly what our wedding day was, it was our dream day! Everything we wanted and more, it exceeded our wildest dreams and was the most perfect day – relaxed, happy and nothing could get us down! The girls started doing hair and makeup from 2:30 am and I walked down the aisle just after 6:15 am – just after sunrise- and we enjoyed the entire day in all it’s glory! It was truly magical.

Changing the Date

Not to mention that we had a date change and moved our wedding closer by five months due to my maid of honor falling pregnant and being due on our original wedding day. Not having my oldest bestie with me on my special day was not an option so to change our wedding to just four weeks away was something that just had to happen! All of our vendors were absolutely incredible in helping us in every way possible and we can’t thank them enough for everything they did for us.
