Who else could use a little injection of Vitamin C? This zesty wedding inspiration from Mia Sylvia & photographed by Camilla Andrea Photography should really usher out the winter blues!

Pairing all flavors of Citri (citrus, of course) with our beloved Lilac, this punchy wedding editorial is the color palette of our dreams! Splashing juicy oranges across stationery, florals and decor makes brings this loft space to life, when most loft weddings we see these days are more often than not, minimalist neutral. Not that we dislike such (in fact, we love that, too!) but this bursting of color joyously reminds us that we’re just one day away from Spring.

And color splashes onto our bridalwear as well! Both brides dressed in killer pantsuits akin to 1970s menswear tailoring, it’s the lilac look that has us feverishly Googling for our own get-up (and FYI we found a killer Alex Perry plum suit and this three-piece lilac suit on ASOS for anyone on a budget.) We’re always all about the bridal pantsuit but I’m afraid we’ve been so focused on finding white ones lately, this editorial reminds us that our colorful wedding dress-loving selves love colorful suits, too!

The ceremony space has been designed and styled by MiaSylvia, an environmental textile designer and stylist who specialises in harnessing colour on fabrics using the ancient process of natural dye.

Each colour is cooked up in The MiaSylvia studio using a range of foraged and natural ingredients such as plants, flowers, food-waste and scrap metals. Mia created ceiling-length fabric instillations to adorn the ceremony space and create a fine-art space that felt like a sacred exhibition for the couple to swerve in and out of. Each fabric installation is 6 meters in height and has been hand-dyed using the ethical and sustainable techniques that Mia practices. From rolling up petals, spices and minerals in the cloth and steaming them to release the soft hues and bespoke patterns you see in the installs.

At the foot of each fabric installation, there are cemented block planters that have florals blooming from them, designed by Emma Spowage as If sprouting from the ground beneath. Another nod to the industrial architecture of the building and juxtaposition of contrasting the hard metal exterior with soft hues and delicate textiles. The blooms and florals are a direct reflection of the beauty within Mother Nature and how these ingredients can be harnessed to create colours on the textiles featured.

We handpicked our gorgeous velvet vintage armchairs to fit the colour pallet, along with our more modern white and metal chairs for the ceremony. This mix of old and new is something we are showing together, how you can mix styles and still create a beautiful setting for your wedding.

Our whitewashed reclaimed wood trestle tables and white chairs bring a fresh a vibrant feel to the table set up. Matched with simple candlesticks, bold textures and flowers create a strong modern, colourful style.

Organising the shoot was challenging due to COVID, however, my strong relationship with our venue Trinity Buoy Wharf meant that the day ran smoothly, with the venue well communicated to, and all suppliers briefed on their responsibility to remain safe in the workplace. Understanding what parameters you need to work within before a shoot takes place is key to ensuring there are no issues along the way, meaning we could execute the shoot on time and ensure that the creative process is strong and not dampened in any way due to lack of information of communication between the suppliers and the venue.
