UK photographer Jennifer Jane and her talented team of vendors put together this stunning, 1920s-inspired wedding editorial at the Burgh Island Hotel. Celebrating 100 years since the Jazz Era, the aim was to modernize art deco wedding design – incorporating new bridal fashion & wedding trends that complement the era rather than relying on vintage pieces.

The result is a stunning scene that marries an atmosphere of lavish glamour and breathtaking scenery. A lover of wild outdoors, Jennifer Jane is no stranger to incorporating nature into luxurious wedding style. Using fine art photography techniques, her soft & ethereal wedding photos always seem to effortlessly weave together nature & the outdoors with luxury & details.

While Emma Caesar Weddings‘ styling inside of the Burgh Island Hotel may have been put properly together as any Jazz Era party would, the frames captured on the shore are as breezy & wild as can be. This sunset shoot gives our Art Deco bride the chance to wear the perfect, fluffy bridal jacket.

Our inspiration was to celebrate 100 years of Art Deco, remaining sympathetic to the movement but with a modern edge for the 2020s.

For the location, I chose Burgh Island Hotel, a spectacular art deco hotel. Built during the 1920s and sympathetically restored to its former art deco glamour. It stands proud on its own tidal island, surrounded by the glittering sea and golden sandy beaches. It is the hotel where guests can never be overdressed and you can relax in your own private haven. It is simply the perfect venue for the shoot.

It was important to us as suppliers to use modern elements that had a ‘feel’ for the 1920s era. We wanted to avoid using vintage clothing and accessories. We wanted the shoot to have a real feel of the Art Deco era, but at the same time feel fresh and contemporary. For this reason, we opted for a softer colour palette of mint, white and gold instead of the more familiar black and gold. We wanted couples to find the shoot and feel like they could take elements of the shoot and build on them for their own day.

The Fashion

There was only one bridal boutique when it came to the Shoot. Carina Baverstock Couture stock the most exquisite wedding gowns, and supplied the most incredible dress that was both contemporary, but oozed the sophistication, luxury, and glamour of the art deco movement.

For the make-up and hair, we didn’t want to be a historical recreation, so we kept the make-up natural, but opted for a bit more drama for the eyes. The hair we combined the finger-wave style of the era and a sophisticated updo. And used a bespoke hairpiece created especially for the shoot that used vintage pieces.

The Florals & Decor

Brompton Buds created an amazing table display and bouquet, using the soft colour palette and incorporating Lillies and pampas grass instead of the more familiar feathers. Keeping that soft and romantic feel. The table display included a huge tall showstopper centrepiece.

The cake by Claire’s Sweet Temptations was kept simple and used the soft mint colour, combining with a gold leaf geometric design to keep the vintage elements but bring them into the modern.

Stationery by Retro Press was a beautiful soft mint and gold colour with a geometric design to complement the theme. It was used in conjunction with geometric coasters with guest names.
