Elizabeth & Ethan chose a classic Palm Springs home with mid-century styling, cacti & date palms, views of the San Jacinto Mountains and lavish backyard pool. Thanks to all of this, no decor was needed for this cool Palm Springs elopement giving our couple every chance to relax & enjoy their nuptials. Just how we like it!

Our Love Story

We started talking because we both happened to play the same online game. We played together for a while and realized we had a lot in common. Things progressed from there and we ended up spending a lot of time talking and spending time together and then started dating officially.

When we decided to get married, we had already been together for about ten years so it was less of a proposal and more of a conversation.

The Planning

We originally planned on having a ceremony with friends and family at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. Because of the pandemic, we had to change our plans multiple times. 2020 was such a strange year and we really wanted to get married to end it with something positive and finally make our commitment to each other official. We decided to scrap our original plans and elope with just our photographer and officiant present.

The ceremony felt so personal and we made the choice to forego decor to not detract from the surroundings, which we thought were so pretty. We ordered a cake from one of our favorite bakeries, Ovenly in Brooklyn, New York (where we live), and Ethan cooked a great dinner. It was much different than what we originally planned but we were really happy with how the day turned out.

The Photography

It was important for us to find a photographer who captured moments that looked natural and wouldn’t force us to pose awkwardly. Neither of us like having pictures taken so we also wanted someone we would feel comfortable around. We really liked Jasmine’s work and she seemed really fun. She had a good idea of our style and helped us choose an awesome spot for photos, which turned out great.

What Made Our Wedding So “Us”

While it wasn’t what we were initially planning, it was nice that it was just the two of us. We didn’t have to perform for anyone and were able to relax and be ourselves with each other. The day felt much more relaxed and less stressful than it would have if we had waited to have a ceremony with guests. Even though we were outside and socially distanced, everyone wore masks. It was so exciting to take off our masks and kiss for the first time as a married couple.

Advice to Other Couples

There are a lot of traditions surrounding weddings, and it can be easy to feel like you have to do everything in a more traditional way, but it’s important to make decisions that are right for you and your partner. It’s not a requirement to wear a traditional wedding dress or invite everyone you know. While it’s an important moment, not straying too far out of your comfort zone will probably make for a better day.

The Honeymoon

We already had to travel for our wedding so we stayed in Palm Springs for an extra two weeks. Planning to travel during the pandemic was stressful so we wanted to make sure the trip was long enough. It was nice to be able to relax and spend time together in one of our favorite places.
