Remember this captivating wedding film I shared last week?
Well today I'm thrilled to share more of Shannon and Ryan's wedding with gorgeous photos from Katelyn James Photography plus a lovely write up (and great advice) from the beautiful bride.
Shannon and Ryan had a rustic chic wedding with the prettiest palette of pink, yellow and grey. Shannon kept it classy but relaxed in an elegant empire waist gown with pockets, flat bow sandals and statement pearls while her bridesmaids wore buttery yellow one shoulder dresses in floaty chiffon.
But it's not just the stylish attire I've fallen for, this wedding is bursting with creative ideas and DIY details. Including a puzzle guestbook, a ‘family legacy' board and a plethora of natural textures such as burlap bunting and wood centerpieces lovingly handmade by Shannon's dad.
From Shannon, The Bride:
Our wedding was such a joyful day that we will forever treasure. My theme was a rustic, simple yet classy look. Our color palette was made up of soft yellows and pinks with burlap, gold mercury glass and natural elements. We wanted to make sure that guests coming to our wedding would have fun, eat delicious food and that they would say “oh that was so Ryan and Shannon!”
We wove lots of small, yet personal touches throughout the wedding—we wrote our own vows, my dad built every centerpiece and our cupcake stands, I DIY-ed all of the paper goods and signage, I wore the veil that was worn by my close friend and Matron of Honor for her wedding and we signed a family Bible in recognition that we cannot do marriage by ourselves.
We were incredibly blessed with weather that held off at the last second, to be surrounded by family and friends and were filled with gratitude that God had brought us together.
The Florals:
Flowers were such a foreign concept to me, so after giving some small guidance, I let my florist run with it. She incorporated soft colors and textures along with rustic touches to our florals. I LOVED my bouquet that was filled with white and pink dahlias, snowberries and spray roses. The boutonnieres were made of up craspedia and were wrapped with burlap for a rustic look.
The Refreshments:
The menu was very us—it was mostly Italian inspired (our favorite) and we had a killer six cheese mac and cheese complete with topping bar. Everyone raved about it! Cupcakes were a no-brainer choice for us instead of cake.
Photography:
Katelyn was another no-brainer for our wedding! She is a college friend of ours and it meant so much that someone so personal was there to capture our day. It just made it 10x more fun and relaxed. Her husband was even a groomsman in the wedding party!

Videography:
Videography was such a worthwhile investment. We loved Josh Gooden’s work because of his cinematic perspective. Our thought process was literally Josh Gooden or bust. He’s that good! It was a last minute decision and we were on the fence initially, but looking back it was one of the best decisions we made. (Check out their stunning wedding highlights film to see why!)
Advice For Other Couples Planning Their Weddings:
Have fun with it! If things start getting stressful or you think you’re taking on too much, ask yourself: Is this worth the amount of time I’m spending on this? Sometimes I would spend hours on something that no one would notice is missing or I wanted one picture of. I was very DIY advantageous at first, but quickly realized I needed to pare my list down to a few projects.
Also, use Pinterest! It was my best source for collecting and finding ideas. BUT don’t get hung up on doing ALL of the details you’ve pinned. Pinterest overload is REAL! Stick to what you love and hone in on the details that match your theme.
Yes, yes and yes. Pinterest is an amazing resource for brides but it can quickly become overwhelming. Don't let all those pretty pins dilute you and your fiance's vision and hopes for your wedding. Stay true to yourself not what you think your wedding should look or be like. The same goes for when you look at wedding blogs too (including Bridal Musings)~ sometimes there is such a thing as too much inspiration!
