I can't think of a better way to kick off the week than with Hilary and Gordon's love filled, pastel hued, DIY wedding in North Carolina captured beautifully by Brett and Jessica.
It's sure to inspire all you crafty brides to reach for your glue gun!
There are so many things to love about their day, from their herb farm venue (so pretty and fragrant) to Hilary's gorgeous, light and airy wedding dress (the lace edging is perfection) and all the delicious food.
Hilary and Gordon wanted to share their fave foods with their friends and family so they had their favourite local restaurant cater and even had a snow cone food truck! (I just can't get enough of food trucks at weddings!)
I don't even know how to begin describing the incredible array of sweet DIY details – hanging glitter dipped mason jars, fabric garlands, wooden signs and a plethora of prettiness involving burlap, wood, tulle, lace…and so much more!*
The Style & Colour Palette
I love the color pink…so there was never a question that my palette would involve pink. It ended up being mostly neutrals and blush pink. Our theme was a simple, vintage farm wedding. I mostly just chose things that I liked, used a lot of mason jars, and incorporated a little glitter!
The Attire
I wore an empire waste Wtoo gown. It was perfect for our outdoor wedding – it was ethereal and light with delicate flowers, beading and lace along the sweetheart neck and hem. I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses- anything in blush or light pink. I had never seen most of the dresses until the day of, but they magically coordinated beautifully!
The Flowers
My bouquet was mostly soft pinks – Juliet Garden roses, blush sahara roses, brunia berries, and sedum edged in dusty miller leaves and wrapped in burlap and lace. The bridesmaids carried a mostly white bouquet with white hydrangeas, lisianthus, seeded eucalyptus and one bright pink pop of alstromeria.
The groom and groomsmen wore boutonnieres with spray roses (white for the groom, light pink for the groomsmen), brunia berries, and dusty miller leaves wrapped in twine.
The Ceremony
A dear friend of mine flew all the way from San Francisco for the wedding and read Psalm 34:1-8
The Photography
I chose Brett and Jessica Photography because I loved their style. Their pictures were beautiful and timeless but also somewhat out of the box and unique. I didn’t want posed or overly “traditional” photos but I wanted to still love them in 50+ years – Brett&Jessica were the perfect mixture of these two things.
The Cocktail Hour
During our cocktail hour we had a food truck come to bring snow cones from our favorite place called Pelicans. They brought 30 flavors of snoballs for guests to choose from with the signature flavor being wedding cake, of course!
Décor & Details
Our decorations were 100% DIY. We had family and friends working for two straight days before the wedding hanging tulle, lights and glittered mason jars from the ceiling. We transformed the old horse barn at our venue into something straight out of my dreams!
The flowers we used for centrepieces all came from two local grocery stores. My mom and her sisters beautifully arranged them in mason jars and other various vases I had collected over the months of my engagement- it was dreamy and exactly as I had envisioned!
Unique & Special Details
Our wedding was the product of hours and hours of hard work from our friends and family. My wedding dreams and vision came to be because of the people who supported and loved us.
We couldn’t have done it without the people who gave their time and made the effort to be there and help us – the fact that it was 100% DIY made it even more special and more “us” and made it all the sweeter when we got to celebrate with our friends and family from far and near all together.
The Refreshments
Our favorite Greek restaurant came and catered with a huge buffet line. The food was phenomenal and we loved that it represented one of our favorite places to share a meal. A wonderful family friend of ours made AMAZING cupcakes for our guests in delicious flavors, and a tiny 2 tier funfetti cake for us!
The Favors
We ordered apple butter and chai tea from our venue to have as favors for our guests. The venue printed special labels for our tea and named it “Edmiston apple chai” – our new last name!
The Music
I walked down the aisle with my daddy to an instrumental version of Reign of Love by Coldplay and we went back down the aisle to Count on Me by Mat Kearney. We had our first dance to a song called “Baby I’m Yours” by Breakbot, which is an unusual song for a first dance, but it is one of our favorites and we “choreographed” a goofy dance to go along with it.
Favourite Moments
One of my favorite moments from the day, though there were so many, was right after we walked back down the aisle – we headed straight into the beautiful herb garden and enjoyed our first moments together as husband and wife. The pictures I have of our time in that garden are some of my favorites from the whole day…and even though it wasn’t a planned out moment, we just enjoyed the sweetness of being married in quiet for a few minutes before we danced the night away!
