Today is the first in a special series here on Bridal Musings, all about our favourite feature of any wedding.

No it's not the dress.  Nah, it ain't the bouquets. And nope, it's got nothing to do with love, vows, or that whole life-long commitment thing.

It's all about, cake.

Three (or four, or five) tiers of glorious, spongey, chocolatey, creamy, floral-laced wedding cake.

And we're in safe hands too. Our new cake columnist is Jaclyn Campbell, the proprietor behind Ivory & Rose Cake Company. In her own words, Jaclyn “Creates wedding cakes that are remembered long after eaten.”

Over the coming weeks, Jaclyn will talk us through some of the big cake trends of 2014, but for starters, she's going to give us a little taster of them all.

Take it away Jaclyn…

I fell in love with creating wedding cakes when I got married myself and it is my mission to share my passion for beautiful wedding cakes with other wedding couples.

A wedding cake is one of the few on-show centrepieces in a couple’s big day and I believe it should reflect the couple's style and personality both inside and out.

My expertise lies in creating delicate sugar flowers with a romantic feel and clean sharp lines.

Today I want to share with you some of the wedding cake trends I am already seeing in 2014. Grab a cup of tea because this is going to make you salivate!

Many of our couples are requesting more unique and chic wedding cakes and moving away from the more traditional style tiered cake.

The USA and Australia are leading the way with the latest trends, but I must say that us Brits are definitely catching up to them but with our own little twists.

I'll go into a little more detail on each 2014 cake trend over the coming weeks and give you lots more inspiration, along with alternative tiers, exotic ingredients and unusual flavours.

Until then, Happy planning!
