DIY Tutorial: Gorgeously Simple Wavy Hair

Today we've got a DIY Tutorial will show you how to create the kind of hair almost every long-haired lady craves; gorgeous, simple, bombshell waves.

We created this look for Elizabeth's (usually poker-straight!) tresses on our recent Bridal Musings photoshoot with Marianne Taylor Photography.

While we thought we needed to show you guys something more ornate or formal, our resident hair guru, Sev, of Hepburn Collection, said this natural, yet glamorous look has become, hands down, the most popular wedding day style among the brides he works with.

And we can see why, pair this with a vintage hair slide, some pretty blooms or perhaps a mantilla veil and you have the most fabulous wedding day tresses, that don't look over-styled or (our biggest wedding day fear!) like prom hair.

While you might need a stylist on hand to perfect this look on your wedding day, (Sev actually did Elizabeth's hair for her own big day!) our easy DIY tutorial should give you all you need to get perfectly tousled tresses for an engagement shoot, rehearsal dinner, or just your average glam Monday morning meeting!

What You Need:

– A curling wand (We used quite a wide barrel for voluminous waves, try 38mm)

– A flat bristle hairbrush

– Some hairspray to finish.

1. Start At The Front

Prep your hair first, by brushing out any knots. Curls generally take better in day-old hair, so try not to wash it on the same day as styling.

Starting with the front sections of your hair, use your curling wand to create semi-tight curls, which flow from about ear-length, down.

2. Pull the Wand Out Gently

As you curl your hair, take one inch sections, clamp the end in the curling wand, then wrap the length around the outside of the barrel and twist it about 180°.

Don't clamp down too hard on the end of your hair or you'll get creases, simply hold it for about 5 seconds, then gently pull it out.

3. Curl The Rest of Your Hair in Sections

Once the front is curled, work your way around the rest of your hair.

If your tresses are thick, perhaps tie it up in bunches to make sure you don't miss a section.

4. Keep Curling Until It's All in Waves

Once you're finished wanding, all your hair should be in almost-ringlets, from the nape of your neck down.

5. Brush It Out

Gently brush out the curls in sections, using a flat, soft bristled brush to comb out the curls. You want soft bombshell waves rather than coiffed curls or ringlets.

6. Spray To Finish

Polish and hold the look with your favourite hair or finishing spray.

Claire is more than a little obsessed with Moroccan Oil Luminous Hairspray at the moment, (it smells amazing, holds for hours, and never gets hard or sticky – it ain't cheap, but it's well worth investing in.)
