Bridal Week is upon us. (Hurray!)
And while we're sadly not in NYC for the swoonworthy shows this year, we've been glued to social media, eyeing up the latest trends, and we'll be bringing you the very best of the new season's collections in the coming days. (Keep an eye on our Instagram feed for teasers.)
And in celebration of all the gorgeous gowns, we're so excited to share an exclusive photoshoot from one of our favourite backless wedding dress designers, Katie May.
They've worked with the amazing Christina Morgan Photography and a team of fabulous vendors, to put together an ultra cool, effortlessly sexy city elopement inspiration shoot, and we're just so honoured that they've chosen you, our ever-stylish readers, to share it with first!
We could gush about this modern love story, this stunning wedding dress, and the cool, alternative styling all day long, but instead, we'll leave you in the fabulous hands of the team at Katie May to tell us more about this seductive inspiration shoot.
From the Designer
We pulled inspiration for this shoot directly from our surroundings. Our offices are located in Downtown Los Angeles, which used to be pretty beat-up, but has quickly turned into a trendy spot thanks to the rad hotels, restaurants, and businesses that have recently opened in the area.
We were inspired by this new influx of “hipsters” spending their time here. They are stylish, well-traveled, beautiful in their own individual way, and could care less about blending in.
We had fun trying to imagine what they would do for their wedding, which is why we have this story. It's our version of a modern day love story.
The styling is eclectic with the bride in a vintage black ostrich jacket and mixed-metal jewelry. In place of a veil, we created a netted eye piece.
Towards the end of the shoot, these were replaced with a leather jacket, motorcycle boots, and a Chantilly lace glove. The non-traditional styling blended perfectly with the Monaco gown, yet stayed relevant to the surroundings and story.
The tablescape was eclectic and mixed the abalone shell with the hand-painted tortoise design of the china. The floral centerpieces were large hydrangea overflowing off the table, creating volume and asymmetric dimension.
The cityscape was an important character in this love story, which is why we chose to shoot it right here in downtown. The city lights, skyline, and bustling streets added a beautiful and moody undertone.
Our photographer Christina captured the attitude and edge we were going for, which is what we find so exciting and raw about these images.
I love this story, and hope it inspires forward-thinking brides yearning to create something more provocative for their wedding day.
Isn't it just captivating? I love a leather jacket with a wedding dress, it's just so cool, yet romantic – and perfect for an elopement too.
The Monaco gown is such a beautiful wedding dress too, don't you think? And really versatile for styling up or down to make it more of a classic bridal look or something a little edgier.
Thanks so much to Christina Morgan Photography, and of course Katie May for sharing this extra special, exclusive shoot with us.
