Gold!

Not just the name of an awesome Spandau Ballet song, or a precious metal we love to tote around on our fourth finger, gold is also an elegant, fun, versatile and entirely chic colour to add to your wedding palette.

With the ability to lend both texture and tone to your big day, gold can add a luxe polish to a rustic setting, bring a pop of metallic to a monochrome palette, or give pinks or purples a grown-up edge.

So, with that in mind (and the fact that gold is having quite a moment right now!), we thought we'd team up with Ferrero Rocher to bring you guys our guide to adorning your wedding day in gorgeous gold touches.

Of course, when it comes to gold, it's a no-brainer for you to wear it, jewellery, shoes, and even wedding dresses have been getting the gilded treatment over recent years.

But if you really want a gold vibe to run through your day in a way that not just you, but your guests will appreciate, it's all about subtle (and not-so-subtle) decor and details that will really make your celebration glisten.

Whether you're having a low-key DIY wedding in a barn, or an opulent bash in a hotel, by thinking creatively, there are so many different ways you can incorporate the metallic hue into your day (without having to cash in a few gold bars to do it!)

What to Pair With Gold?

There is almost no colour that doesn't look great with gold.

Paired with white or cream hues, it can be really elegant and regal, while browns, dark greens or reds give gold touches a luxurious vintage feel.

We love the idea of pairing it with soft blues or bright turquoises for a fresh, modern take, while greys and blacks look really cool and tonal with gold.

For something really fun and a little more youthful, use gold in stripes, polka dots or chevron patterns, paired with black and white, or bright pink.

Texture is also gold's best friend, whether you opt for gold foil, leaf, glitter or spray, you can play around with it to create different finishes, depending on your wedding day style.

5 Must-Haves for a Gold Wedding

Gold Lanterns

1. Gold Foil Stationery

Gold foil stationery adds an element of luxury to even the most low key wedding. It's a versatile way to work the trend for all things golden into your big day from the very start.

Opt for a flecked gold leaf look for modern paper goods, pair a gold calligraphy script with kraft paper for something rustic and casual, or go for a gold letterpress with heavyweight paper for a truly lavish invitation.

2. Ferrero Rocher

There's something both so simple and so palatial about serving Ferrero Rocher at your wedding. These chic pralines will add the perfect touch of gold to your palette, and can be used creatively throughout your day.

Serve as a sweet treat during cocktail hour, create a tower as a focal point on your dessert table, or dot them along your place settings as a gilded favour to greet your guests.

We love the idea of the brown cup and gilded foil on a crisp white table cloth, but they'd add a really elegant touch on a bare wooden table too, don't you think?

3. Gilded Table Adornments

This is where you can get really creative! From stately candelabras to cool terrariums and DIY sprayed bottles to exotic luxury lanterns, you can bring a little (or a lot) of gold into your table decor really easily.

For a simple take on the trend, use gold frames for printed table numbers, opt for gold mercury glass votives for tea lights or add some serious sparkle with a sequin table runner.

We're also a tad obsessed with gold foil balloons right now. Use them to spell out a welcome sign for your guests, or have giant numbered balloons to mark out your tables in a unique and fun way.

4. Brushed Gold Cutlery

We almost don't want to share this one, because it's a favourite trend of ours we're kind of hoping we can keep to ourselves (too late!). When you say gold cutlery out loud, so many people think of something heavy, dated, and let's face it, a little bit tacky!

But the new trend for knives and forks couldn't be more subtle. Opt for brushed gold finishes, or cutlery with a more rose gold or copper hue, and pair it with autumnal hues for a rustic wedding or clean bright colours for a more modern affair.

Avoid pairing gilded cutlery with anything too fussy, and you'll have yourself an instant cool, yet classic statement for your wedding.

5. Gold Spray Favours

Oh these are cool! Gold sprayed animals, for favours or escort cards, are a trend that got pretty big a few years back, but haven't gone anywhere since.

Whether you buy them, or DIY them, there's something so chic and novel about gifting your guests with a gilded toy to take home from your big day (who doesn't love a little grown-up fun!).

I tried this myself last year, and not only were they so easy to do, but they were seriously addictive too.

Just try not to spray everything in your wedding gold after you see how well these turn out!
