A Scenic Rocky Mountain Elopement

Happy Friday folks, we’re sending you off to your cozy winter weekend with the sweetest, most heart-warming elopement on top of the Rocky Mountains.

Stephanie and Derreck ran away with their closest loves, and super talented photographer Sarah Porter to the scenic and iconic Rocky Mountain State Park to say “I do”. And as if the intimate affair weren’t sweet enough, their adorable daughter Cali played flower girl and popped in and out of photos hugging her happy parents throughout the day.

Keeping true with the elopement theme, the two set up a mini rustic tablescape with wild looking blooms, a natural cake and free-flowing calligraphy over place cards. (Can we just talk about how easy and fun it would be to do DIY calligraphy with just a few guests?!) Bride Stephanie kept fit right in the mountain scene with her boho gown, flower crown and comfy sneakers.

Our Love Story

My first memory of my husband was when I was about 5 years old. It was the first day of kindergarten and we were walking up to the bus stop. We ended up in the same class with Mrs. Meadows. We sat together every day on the bus. After school, we would play in the creek behind my house and catch lizards & frogs!

D picked up me and our daughter after work on Valentines Day. He drove us to Boulder (we had no idea what was going on). Derreck pulled over at the top of the mountain with the most beautiful view. He pulled me out of the car and got down on one knee! He propped his phone up on the windshield and recorded the whole thing. Afterwards, our daughter Cali stuck her head out the window and said, “Can I have the box?!!”

The Attire

We were going for intimate and romantic. We wanted the feel of a wedding without all the fuss. One of the reasons why I wore my trusty converse!

The First Look

For me, my favorite memory was the first look. Derreck rode with Sarah, our photographer. I rode with the moms. We were supposed to be right behind everyone else and we had left the map at the hotel. We were lost and I went total bridezilla. In the mountains with zero cell service. I freaked out, just a little.

As we were driving back I saw my husband-to-be, in this beautiful meadow. I was still upset so Sarah reminded me that everything was good and the lighting couldn’t have been better. As I walked up to him (more like ran) I just felt everything wash away, the worry, the stress, it was complete serenity when I untied his blindfold and looked into his hazel eyes. It was one of the best moments of my life.

Advice to Other Couples

Just remember what the day is about. Don’t stress about the little things because at the end of the day you’ll be married to the love of your life. It should be about yourself and your spouse. When you’re standing in front of your husband to be and holding his hands, nothing else will matter.
