I went to California to meet my girlfriend of a year and a half’s family (we’re from Washington). I wanted to propose when we took our day trip to Disneyland, but I was met with the problem of the ring box. It’s pretty visible and noticeable in a pocket, so I wanted something more conspicuous.

Rewind a few months, for a Photography class, I was required to use a Holga camera, so she knew it wasn’t just some fake toy camera.

I took “pictures” all day of her, over the course of the day she held the camera for me. As the sun set over Paradise Pier in California Adventure we did a photo op with my Nikon DSLR and I said, “Hey honey, take a picture of me with my film camera!” “Okay..”, she says and goes to take a picture. I tell her to slide the exposure counter on the back to reveal the ring below the magenta colored cellophane that covers the back. She was so confused until I went over and took the back off and got down on one knee.

We spent the rest of the night ride hopping until the park closed. Best day of my life so far.

The two got married in June 2014, you can see their super fun Washington wedding by Thomas Shull here!

Cynthia & Clint

I (Clinton) play hockey, so I told her I wanted to go to “practice” my skating for an upcoming season, Cynthia had no idea what was coming. I invited some friends as a double date, but also so we could get some good pictures.

I had a Snapchat filter made that said “Potato will you marry me?” the filter was set up to go online at 7 pm, so as soon as it turned 7 I took Cynthia to the middle of the ice rink. I asked her to take a selfie with me, scrolled through the filters and knowing her I knew she would want to check the picture.

I told her to read the filter and while she was still in shock and definitely surprised I told her to look up above the rink where I had all of our family and friends waiting with big signs that said, “Potato will you marry Clint?” this all happened so fast, I dropped to one knee got the ring out and told her that I loved her with all my heart and asked if she would spend the rest of her life with me.

I’m so lucky she said “Yes”, it was one of the happiest moments of my life!

(Guess what, we get to feature Cynthia & Clint’s taco filled San Diego wedding – that I was so lucky to photograph – next month, stay tuned!)

My fiancé proposed in the sweetest way, and he really surprised me most by doing it at home!

We had recently moved from California to Virginia and he had just returned from a Navy deployment. Once he had the ring, he thought of a lot of places he could ask but decided our new home would be the most special. He was right!

As I walked down the stairs one night he told me how much he loved me and appreciated my support in moving across the country and while he was at sea, then got on one knee asked if I’d spend the rest of my life with him. I said “YES!”

Although we live in Virginia now, we couldn’t pass up doing our engagement shoot with Katie Shuler in Ojai, California.

Our proposal story is nothing glamorous or over the top, but it’s filled with love, and it’s very “us.”

I got off of work one Friday afternoon and my then boyfriend, Alex, and our friends met up for happy hour drinks at our favorite dive bar. We had a pizza party to attend later that night so I insisted we stay out drinking beers & cocktails until we had to go. Alex sat next to me, hands in his pocket, not sipping his drink.

We were ready to drive over to our friends’ house when he suggested stopping at home to pick up food & drinks. When we arrived it was pouring rain and I figured he would just run in and grab what we needed. When Alex realized I had no interest in leaving the car to walk in the rain, he said, “Well I guess I’ll have to do this in here,” and pulled out the ring from his jacket pocket.

No getting down on one knee, no red roses, just a long speech in a Volvo station wagon about why he loved me so much, and why he wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. He had secretly designed the ring – which had a snakeskin band & diamond that belonged to my grandpa – with our friend and jewelry designer, Margaret Cross.

We spent all night drinking champagne, crying, ordering pizza (we never made it to the pizza party, so we had our own), calling our friends and family, and celebrating! It was perfect.

You are coming with me sir!

Brittany & Daniel

Our story is super cute! My now fiancé Daniel and I decided to climb Mount Warning one weekend – 1156 meters above sea level – which is the first place in Australia to see the sun. Romantic right?!

And after a very sweaty and hard trek, we made it to the top! Looking out to the amazing view I turned around to see Daniel pulling a ring out of his pocket, he then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him on top of the world. It was amazing!

The couple got married on February 10 of this year and we can not wait to see the gorgeous wedding in Australia!
