Ah, Positano, the dreamy cliffside town in the heart of the stunning Italian Amalfi Coast. There are few places on Earth we can imagine more perfect for a dramatic, seaside affair such as this we share today.

With a love of travel, and desire to spend ample time with their guests, Janie & Mac searched for the perfect destination for their wedding celebrations. Positano provided them with an experience of a lifetime for both themselves and their family and friends in tow. The two married in front of a stunning floral circle arch with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea, the mountains and town below.

Drama seemed to be the theme of the scene for their jaw-dropping day. Luscious white peonies & roses adorned a classic cake, their voluminous centerpieces and ran down the aisle into the altar. Janie’s Ines Di Santo gown too was a showstopper (remember the designer from our best of Canada list last week?!) With blush undertones, sheer panel back and dramatic train, her bridal look rivaled the incredible, picturesque views around her.

Our Love Story

Brien “Mac” and I met at Beta night club where I worked VIP bottle service. Beta was one of the best clubs in the nation for dance, house & electronic music. I made some great friends at Beta and around a year into this job my good friend who also happened to be my boss asked that I take over a table with her friends from her hometown. Brien “Mac” was the first in the group to introduce himself hoarded me the entire night.

Our relationship was smooth and natural from the beginning. For the first time in my life, I had the feeling every woman dreams of, an immediate connection like no other and butterflies I still get to this day when my husband makes eye contact with me. Our connection was immediate and strong so we knew what we had was meant to be.

We were eight months pregnant at the time and were taking our family baby pump photos out in one of the most beautiful spots Colorado has to offer. On the way back Mac insisted on pulling over to a spot that overlooked the city and proposed to me and his love for our growing family. The funny thing is that Mac didn’t have a ring when he proposed as it was spontaneous but I knew our love was real and it would come later. Regardless, he made up for the belated ring by giving me a flawless Tiffany & Co. diamond.

The Dress & Attire

Brien went with a custom navy suit from Trumaker that the tailor helped pick out to match with the breathtaking blues of the Amalfi Coast. Ultimately our goal was to blend in with the colorful cascade of hillside buildings and boutique shops right alongside the working marina.

The climate, friendly warm people and outstanding natural beauty of this part of Italy have been attracting admirers and lovers for centuries. Therefore, as a Positano bride, I chose an Ines Di Santo‘s strapless dramatic ball gown fit-to-flare Art Deco-inspired gown made in luxurious silk tulle and organza with soft petal pink underlay and elegantly beaded lace appliqués throughout bodice and hemline. The dress features a dramatic draw-dropping illusion back and had a stunning detachable multi-layer silk lace overskirt. I was looking for drama, romance, and elegance just as the fairytale-like Italian atmosphere offers.

The Destination & Planning

We’ve always shared the love for travel, food, and unique experiences together. We spent a lot of time researching different locations that would be special and memorable. We talked about our previous trips and what we liked and didn’t like. After looking through blogs, Facebook, Instagram, and google searches we agreed that Italy’s Amalfi Coast would be the perfect fit.

Our vision was to spend quality time with our close friends and family and get a vacation along the way. Both of us had been to weddings with hundreds of people where conversations are quick and unfulfilling. Having a destination wedding immediately trimmed our guest list down to a number that gave us the opportunity to spend quality time with each person who attended. It gave all of our guests a chance to share a once in a lifetime experience while broadening our horizons. We wanted the actual ceremony to be fun and relaxed for everyone. Planning a wedding is already stressful and being in a foreign country adds an additional level of anxiety so we wanted the vibe to be positive all around.

For colors and style, we wanted soft colors with a modern elegance look and classy sophistication to match the town of Positano.

Favorite Moments

My three-year-old daughter Bliss had been prepped by both mommy & daddy for months that we were getting married and how it would all take place. However, being a toddler she ultimately didn’t understand why we didn’t have a ring for her. Bliss was attached to Mac all day and wouldn’t leave his side without making a huge scene. Towards the end of the wedding ceremony Bliss finally left our side and came back seconds later handing us both snacks which had all the guests laughing and ended our wedding on a high note.

The speeches were also special moments. Hearing friends and family tell stories and talking about our relationship was truly memorable.

The Flowers

When it came to flowers we wanted to keep it simple. The Marincanto Hotel terrace overlooking the breathtaking mountain, Amalfi Coast would more than suffice and we didn’t want to distract for the natural beauty that already existed. Therefore, we went with white and blush roses, the purest of colors to represent innocence, purity and charm that Positano naturally possesses.

Thankfully we were recommended Catherine Bradfield of The Wedding Boutique Italy as she and her team executed our vision perfectly. Passion, love and care shine through every detail as everything was managed by people who love what they do

The Important Details

There was one thing we have always agreed on since we commenced on the wedding preparations and it’s food. Food is one of the first things that we as a couple connected on and have remained passionate about. As huge foodies, it was a must to splurge on the perfect menu.

In order to provide our guests with an extraordinary dining experience, we also took into consideration a restaurant with ambiance and unforgettable atmosphere. Once we had decided on Positano, we immediately selected the Rada Restaurant with chef Emilio Desiderio. The least we could do to show our gratitude to our family and friends for following us all the way to Italy is with its superb food, excellent hospitability and a culinary experience like no other.

Advice to Other Couples

One of our dearest friends and a couple who has been married 50+ years gave us advice we have applied religiously to our marriage. That advice is to never go asleep angry. To never let the sun set on an argument. Before you go to sleep, after an argument or upset, bring out the gratitude list and let the resentment subside. You’ll be glad you did.
