I've got a fabulous 2 for 1 beauty post for you today on engagement shoot make up ~ because pretty, carefully applied make up is not just for weddings you know. Though, admittedly, these looks are so darn pretty they'd work just as well for your wedding. Or Christmas/New Year's eve parties perhaps?
The lovely and very talented make up artist Sarah of Co Co Violet Make Up is sharing tutorials on how to create the make up looks for Liz and Tom's engagement shoot which I featured yesterday. On meeting the gorgeous Liz I really felt that her make up should simply emphasize her natural beauty. Liz was nothing but smiles and had a real glow of happiness about her so I just wanted to enhance this.
The first shoot was outside in the leafy autumnal Victoria Park, surrounded by the beautiful rich colours of burnt amber, ochre and chestnut. So I wanted to gently incorporate some of these colours into Liz's make up.
The first thing I did was apply “painterly”by MAC as a base to Liz's eyes. This is a cream texture so it is designed to smooth, prime and even out the eye area making a gorgeous creaseless based for the powder I eyeshadows. I then blended a little “Brule”just under the brow bone and inner eye, then used “woodwinked” swept across the eyelid and to add a little more definition applied “tempting” into the crease of the eye to add a little more depth. I also pressed a little “Tempting” into Liz's lower lash line to create balance and definition.
Liz is a true English rose and has a real natural flush to her lips. So I chose a colour which was perhaps one shade pinker than her natural lip colour. Firstly I applied a little “lip prep and prime” to smooth the lip and to prevent feathering and bleeding, and also to ensure the colour would lock onto the lip. I then used “Soar” to line the lip and filled in with “Syrup” lipstick which is a gorgeous cushiony texture with a soft sheen.

It really amazes me when I see the amount of kit ~ products and brushes that professional make up artists have. Sarah brought along a suitcase brimming with beauty products! It just goes to show that DIY beauty for your big day may not necessarily be the best budget option.
Liz said that one of her favourite aspects of the engagement shoot was having her make up professionally applied and feeling pampered. Sarah is available for weddings and hen parties and I'm sure she'd be up for working on engagement shoots too after this lovely one!

Once inside the cosy pub I removed all of Liz's make up apart from her eyes and really wanted to concentrate on creating a flawless skin. I massaged some “Moisture Lush” into the skin, paying attention to dry areas. I then applied “Prep and Prime” by pressing into the skin with my hands. This product is great for normal-dry skin as it really helps to smooth any dry skin patches so when foundation is applied it will appear smooth and give it a longer last.
I applied “Studio Sculpt Foundation” with a “#188” brush, this foundation is great as it can give a sheer/medium or full coverage depending on the application. I wanted to give Liz a sheer/medium coverage so I applied a little product as a time and really buffed the product in with each application. A little goes a long way with this and the secret it less is more!
Once all buffed in I then applied a little “Moisture Cover Concealer” under the eyes to even out the skin tone. This concealer is great as it is light-weight and hydrating. I then used “Mineralize Pressed Powder” to set the make up. Mineralize is great for a dry skin as it does contain natural moisturiser and will also leave a soft glow on the skin. I also made sure the powder was applied under the eyes in order to set the concealer.
The last thing to complete the complexion was a little “Blush Baby” blusher applied to the apples of the cheeks and then a small dusting of “Soft and Gentle” highlighter powder around the higher planes of the face just to enhance the radiance in Liz's skin. Finally for the lips Liz and I chose a very bold red to compliment the feel and style of the shoot. I applied “brick” lip liner all over the lip and carefully worked out to the line of the lip. I did this to give the lipstick a really good base so Liz wouldn't need to reapply. To finish the lip I added a coat of “dubbonet” which is a richer tone of red, which really completed and finished off the look.
