It's not often you get to use the words ‘awe-inspiring' and wedding in the same sentence.
But I can't think of a better way to describe Jon and Helen's classically beautiful, incredibly grand wedding bathed in candle light. I've never seen a wedding like it. (Except perhaps the Royal Wedding!)
The creative wedding planner behind their nuptials was Melanie of Cranberry Blue Weddings and Events, below she shares all the exquisite details.
Prepare to be awed…
Jon and Helen have a maritime connection in their family, so wanted their venue to reflect this, The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich therefore provided the perfect backdrop to their big day. They were keen to choose a date that was a bit unusual, and not be reliant on having good weather, so they chose November 5th instead, which is of course bonfire night.
Helen’s dress was a beautiful all-over lace design by Augusta Jones, and we used touches of the lace in other parts of the wedding. The cake by Zoe Clarke had iced lace detailing on it which matched Helen’s dress exactly, and we also wrapped ivory lace around each napkin and secured it with a blush pink ribbon.
The overall look of the day was relatively classic, and as the Painted Hall is so dramatic, we decided to keep the flowers ivory with just a hint of blush pink, and to have full long and low arrangements, Rachel Morgan did a fantastic job. To help brighten the room, we had ivory table runners made especially, which sat on either side of the grand candelabras on the tables and the whole room had an incredible atmosphere lit up by candlelight.
One of my favourite parts of the wedding was when Jon and Helen came out of the Chapel, and the Ushers and myself got all of the guests to line the pathway with sparklers for them to walk through.
Such a magnificent venue and classic, romantic details.
Congratulations to Jon and Helen, wishing you a wonderful future together and thanks to Mike Garrard for sharing these beautiful, atmospheric photos.
I also must say a huge thank you to Melanie at Cranberry Blue Weddings and Events who is as lovely as she is talented. (She has been so patient with my crazy schedule and sporadic emails this past month during my move to the USA!)
I'd love to hear your thoughts, have you ever seen a wedding venue so incredibly grand before? Anyone else loving Helen's demure Augusta Jones wedding dress as much as me?
