I don't know about you but my Instagram feed is filled with jealousy inducing turquoise waters and exotic foods at the moment. Everyone's jetting off for a taste of summer sun. But with sunshine and warmer weather comes extra sunscreen, oily skin and sliding make up!

Thankfully talented make up artist Mariam Jensen is here to share her top products and tips to keep honeymooners and destination brides looking gorgeous in the heat.

Honeymoon/Destination Wedding Makeup Tips

Skincare and makeup needs are very different in warmer, tropical climates, than here in the UK, it needs to withstand sweat, humidity, and of course protect from the suns harmful rays.

Here are some of my top picks for brides whether they are planning the destination wedding of their dreams in the Maldives to honeymooning in Barbados, these tips will not only insure you look your best, but that your look stays put and lasts throughout the day!

Before makeup is applied to skin, I suggest brides and grooms invest in a high-spectrum sun protector for the face and body. For the face I am a huge fan of Shu Uemura UV Armour High Protection Sun Protector SPF 50, this water resistant fluid glides on the skin effortlessly and blends in without leaving any film or unpleasant residue and sits very nicely underneath makeup.

Instead of messing with heavy foundation and products that just don’t last, opt for Hourglass Cosmetics Illusion Tinted Moisturizer. When I first tried this product I fell in love with the texture, coverage, and skincare benefits. This miracle product provides a gorgeous coverage and finish to the skin due to it’s key ingredients INSTALIFTA  and Hyaluronic Filling Spheres, which increases the skins hydration, diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. Just when you thought the product couldn’t get any better it’s water-resistant and also is free-from oil, fragrance, and parabens. You can apply it with fingers for an effortless application or with a foundation brush to build up more coverage where needed. I find that this product definitely gives more coverage that traditional tinted moisturizers, making this skin look more flawless and even.

For hot and humid climates I would make sure to have MAC Blot Films to hand to blot off excess oil and sweat. I would also invest in an oil control powder such as Cover FX Matte FX Oil Absorbing & Blotting Powder, which can be used to maintain and shine-free look through out the day, especially in areas such as the T-Zone. I love this product and even recommend it for use on men to keep them from looking too shiny.

Investing in a good set of brushes also essential for applying perfect makeup. I am in love with the new Japonesque Travel Brushes! These travel brushes are by far the best travel brushes on the market and are well-worth investing in. They come in synthentic and natural bristles, designed with the professional in mind, however widely available now as they are now stocked in Boots and John Lewis in the UK! Be sure to check out the clever designed Travel Angled Foundation Brush and Travel Powder Brush, they are gorgeous and are perfect for applying a flawless base! I am also in love with the Travel Smudger Brush, which can create a sultry eye look in minutes.

For hot and tropical climates I find less is definitely more, even more so when it comes to eyes. Try using a beautiful coloured eye pencil to create a soft, smokey line with a little bit of colour. I am a huge fan of NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner, which comes in 10 shades and wears for over 12 hours without smudging, smearing, or caking.  The product is creamy and glides on with ease, yet is easily blended for a softer finish, I love Madison Avenue (the deep grey) to define eyes with a softer, less harsh finish than black. Abbey Road (turquoise) is also gorgeous with a tanned complexion providing a gorgeous pop of colour, perfect for a beach wedding!

Another Hourglass Cosmetics product makes my top picks for summery, long-wearing makeup! I recommend Superficial Waterproof Brozer, the product does exactly what it says delivering a gorgeous, sun-kissed glow whist being worn in the water and in hot climates. The compact it comes in is equally amazing, as it comes with an amazing little mirror you can use with the compact base and a little standing mirror, the included brush also applies the brush perfectly, unlike most cheapy brushes that are included with bronzers or blush.

A good waterproof mascara is hard to find, most formulas are thin and have a brush that is far too small. I love Revlon Grow Luscious Waterproof Mascara, the full brush helps coat every lash whilst lengthening and building the lashes with each coat. As an added bonus this product also has a lash enhancing formula which helps the growth and condition of lashes!

Lastly, for luscious lips in the sun, I am a huge fan of MAC Tinted Lip Conditioner which has hydrates the lips, has SPF 15, and provides a gorgeous sheer colour. Petting Pink is a soft pink shade which is perfect for brides providing a gorgeous wash of colour, shine, and kissable lips! I would definitely recommend getting the Japonesque Travel Lip Brush for this product as it comes in a pot and is best applied with a brush! For brides that want more definition, try using MAC Whirl Lip Pencil to define lips with the Lip Conditioner.

Many thanks to Mariam for sharing these fantastic tips and product recommendations (I love that she's considered the groom too). As someone who battles with shine, I can't wait to get my hands on that blotting film and powder!
