Quirky DIY Cornish Village Hall Wedding

I have such a fun wedding to share with you today ~ perfect to kick off the weekend!

Suzie and Dan are the talented couple behind Pearl Productions, whose gorgeous videography I've had the pleasure of featuring many times. So it's such a treat to share their wonderful wedding with you all.

Their intimate wedding took place by the sea in beautiful Cornwall, England. They had their reception in a local village hall with friends and family all pitching in to create a day filled with love, creativity and laughter.

There were DIY details and unique touches galore from the cute heart balloons to the hand crafted heart clay place names for each guest and the personalized S & D logos adorning everything from the invites to the campervan!

Suzie looked stunning in a 1920s inspired wedding dress teamed with a whisper soft, sheer veil. While Dan wore a sharp suit and skull print tie. They both accessorized with a stylish pair of Ray Bans!

From Suzie, the bride:

We both come from Cornwall and wanted our wedding to be held there, I wanted a vintage, handmade theme with a few quirky details here and there aslo encorporating the cornish blue in some of the decorations and stationery.

As our budget was tight we had so much help from our creative friends and family, my friend Kelly created the most amazing invitations and even our own S&D logo and stamp which we stamped on the back of each envelope. Dan’s mum, Judy, made the blue bunting and made our favours by cutting white clay hearts and pressing lace into them, this created a place setting with the guests name and also something nice to take hime.

My sister Vicki and her husband Stu printed our logo onto bunting and stickers for the wedding van and bathroom doors, my little sister, Steph, filmed the whole thing for us so that we had a lasting memory.

A Team Effort

All of our friends pitched in and helped decorate the hall, arrange the flowers into teapots and cut glass vases, Dan’s sister Emma cooked amazing Tuscan bread salads. My little brother provided the day guests who we couldn't fit into the registry office with an alternative ceremony for us – we promised things like putting out the bins, buying each other sweets and wine. My wonderful parents ferried equipment, lights, food, props…

The list of things is endless and I am so greatful to everyone for their help and contributions as you could really feel that it was a joint effort, a real cornish village wedding!

The Flowers

The flowers were really important to me, I love Peonies and stocks so had those in my bouquet, we went to town on the flowers and had so many! The hall smelt amazing, we put flowers in teapots and cut glass vases collected from charity shops

The Ceremony

We had a very simple ceremony at the regisrty office and then moved on to the village hall, where my little brother Trystan ‘married’ us again for fun with vows such as ‘I will always help you carry your camera equipment and buy you sweets!’ Just a bit of fun but it was very sweet of Trystan and it will be a lasting memory for me that he was part of our day.

I walked down the aisle to One Love by Bob Marley, my brother in law provided a traditional cornish band for my entrance at the reception which really got me into the Cornish spirit, it felt like a summer fete.

Decor & Details

We decorated the venue wilth white lace and blue cotton bunting, filled the hall with flowers in cut glass vases collected from charity shops, Judy (Dans mum) made our favours of white clay hearts with lace pressed into them. The centre piececs and tables numbers consisted of teapots filled with flowers and a number on a stick in the centre.

The Food

Guests were greated with Prosecco with raspberry, canapes of mozarella balls on sticks with pesto dip, salmon toasts and parma ham and olive stacks, lunch was a Pork Hogroast accompanied with Italian salads created by Dans sister. We had a cholcolate fudge wedding cake and brownies, cupcakes and cake pops, Cornish Yarg and a selection of cheeses after dinner and Cornish Pasties for the evening buffet

Our artist friend, Pete Fowler, created personal cake topper models of us including our little dog Max which were amazing.

The Dress

The dress was an exclusive design by Jacqueline Byrne for Luella's Boudoir. I wanted a twenties style with a dropped waist and beading, I’d tried on a few but as soon as I tried this dress on I felt amazing in it. Rachel at Luella's Boudoir was so amazing and helpful, she really helped my to create a stunning dress that was unique to me with little capped sleeves incorporated.

Photography & Videography

A video was super important to us as we are videographers ourselves, my little sister filmed ours so that we had a great memory of the day, my good friends Martha and George took our photographs and really captured the spirit of the day, everyone was smiling happy and joyous!
